  • Bisexual Men’s Constructions of Sexuality and Gender: A Foucauldian Discourse Analysis

Open Access•Tom Carter, Claudia Zitz et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Bisexuality•2026

Bisexuality is often erased within discourse which perpetuates monosexism and hegemonic masculinity. Bisexual men, in particular, are underrepresented in both sexuality and discursive research. This study explores how cisgender and gender-diverse, publicly and privately bisexual men in the United Kingdom constructed their gender and sexual identities through discourse. Sixteen participants completed semi-structured interviews, with eight also tak…

    Open Access•Tom Carter, Iain Robertson•ARTICLE•Rural History•2016•References: 19

National museums both mediate and inculcate official and formal versions of national culture and by this means make and maintain national identity. Three times in the course of the twentieth century, various groups have attempted, and failed, to establish a national museum, identified variously as British or English. This paper explores just one of those attempts: the Museum of British History Project, first proposed in 1996 and finally killed of…

  • Flow Structure and Channel Stability at the Site of a Deep Scour Hole, Mackenzie Delta, Canada

Open Access•Spyros Beltaos, Bommanna G Krishnappan et al.•ARTICLE•ARCTIC•2012

Unusually deep scour holes in distributary channels of the Mackenzie Delta are of concern for oil and gas resource development, particularly with respect to buried pipeline crossings. Surveys of one such hole, carried out in 1985 and 1992, indicated vertical stability and slight lateral movement. The present study examines how the hole may have changed by the mid-2000s and documents the complex local velocity field and related bed material proper…

  • The political fallacy of baseball diplomacy

    Open Access•Tom Carter, Thomas Carter•ARTICLE•Peace Review•1999•Cited by: 2

In May 1999 the Cuban national baseball team visited Baltimore to play a second exhibition game (the first was held earlier in the year in Havana) against the Baltimore Orioles. The U.S. media portrayed this cultural exchange as “baseball diplomacy.” As it is usually understood, diplomacy is the practice of international politics between states. Yet, no U.S. government officials were involved in the negotiations in Havana that produced this exhib…
