  • Stratigraphy, Radiocarbon Dating, and Culture History of Charlie Lake Cave, British Columbia

    Open Access•Jonathan C Driver, Martin Handly et al.•ARTICLE•ARCTIC•1996•Citada por: 13•Referências: 5

Three seasons of fieldwork at Charlie Lake Cave, British Columbia, have revealed a sequence of stratified deposits that spans the Late Pleistocene and entire Holocene. Analyses of sediments, radiocarbon dates, faunal remains, and artifacts show that the site was first occupied by people at about 10,500 B.P. when local environments were more open than today. By 9500 B.P., boreal forest had moved into the area, and human use of the site was minimal…

  • Prophecy of the Swan

David V Burley, J Scott Hamilton et al.•BOOK•Prophecy of the Swan•1996•Citada por: 6

Prophecy of the Swan covers twenty-nine years in the history of the Peace River valley in northeastern British Columbia. A vivid portrayal of life in some of the most isolated fur trade posts, it describes the intense competition between the North West and the Hudson's Bay companies, the individuals who were involved in exploration and commerce, and, finally, the shocking 'massacre of St. Johns.' It is unique in its integration of historic inform…

  • The Paleoindian Component at Charlie Lake Cave (HbRf 39), British Columbia

    Open Access•Knut R Fladmark, Jonathan C Driver et al.•ARTICLE•American Antiquity•1988•Citada por: 24•Referências: 2

Charlie Lake Cave (HbRf 39) is a stratified site in northeastern British Columbia, Canada, containing a fluted-point component at the base of the excavated deposits. The small artifact assemblage includes a fluted point, stone bead, core tool, and retouched flake. A diverse associated fauna includes fish, birds, and mammals, indicating a more open environment than exists today. Radiocarbon dates suggest that the artifact assemblage was deposited …

  • Mountain of glass

    Knut R Fladmark•ARTICLE•World Archaeology•1984•Citada por: 8•Referências: 5

Results of a first‐stage archaeological reconnaissance of the Mt Edziza obsidian source area in northwestern British Columbia, Canada, are described. Mt Edziza obsidian has been utilized by native people for 9–10,000 years and widely distributed throughout surrounding regions. Archaeological investigations reveal primary concentrated obsidian outcrops and quarry sites at high elevation, as well as lower and more dispersed areal scatters of raw ma…

  • Revisionist Anthropology

    Alice B Kehoe, Alice Β Kehoe et al.•ARTICLE•Current Anthropology•1981•Citada por: 9•Referências: 4

Anthropological discussions of North American Indians and archaeological interpretation of North American prehistory tend to be distorted by biases, some the "cant of conquest," others derived from the structuring principles of the European tradition. Tripartite schemata such as the Three-Age model and premises of oppositional dualism such as the contrast between primitive and civilized should be assumed to come from these structuring principles …
