  • FDI, industrialisation and environmental quality in SSA—the role of institutional quality towards environmental sustainability

Open Access•John Abdulai Jinapor, Joshua Yindenaba Abor et al.•ARTICLE•Humanities and Social Sciences…•2024

In light of the quest to achieve economic development without compromising environmental quality, we empirically examine whether institutional quality (INSQY) can help moderate the possible harmful effects of foreign direct investments (FDI) and industrialisation on environmental quality in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). We utilise the Driscoll and Kraay standard error estimation technique on a panel of 45 SSA countries from 2000 to 2019. The results …

  • Consistency Is Key When Setting a New World Record for Running 10 Marathons in 10 Days

Open Access•Nicolas Berger, Dean Cooley et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

Performance and pacing were highly consistent across all 10 marathons without any substantial physiological decrements. Although overall EI did not match EE, leading to a significant ED, resulting in a 2.6 kg weight loss and decreases in bodyfat and skeletal muscle mass, this did not affect performance

  • Brief Exercise at Work (BE@Work): A Mixed-Methods Pilot Trial of a Workplace High-Intensity Interval Training Intervention

Open Access•Naomi L Burns, Naomi Burns et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Sports and Active…•2021•Cited by: 3•References: 79

Introduction:The efficacy of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) for improving markers of physical fitness and cardiometabolic health is promising. The workplace is one non-laboratory setting where the effectiveness of HIIT could be explored. The aim of this study was to undertake a mixed-methods exploratory pilot trial of a workplace HIIT intervention named Brief Exercise at Work (BE@Work).Methods:Fifty-four healthy employees (mean ± standar…

  • Integrated Strength and Fundamental Movement Skill Training in Children: A Pilot Study

Open Access•Fay Grainger, Alison Innerd et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2020

Competence in fundamental movement skills is essential to enable children to be physically active. We investigated the effect of an integrated fundamental movement skill with a strength training intervention on children's fundamental movement skills. Seventy-two (53% female) 10- to 11-year-old children from three primary schools assented to take part in this study (87% compliance). Schools were randomly allocated to a control (no intervention; n …

  • Physiological Responses and Nutritional Intake during a 7-Day Treadmill Running World Record

Open Access•Nicolas Berger, Dean Cooley et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Ultra-running comprises running events longer than a marathon (>42.2 km). The prolonged duration of ultra-running leads to decrements in most or all physiological parameters and considerable energy expenditure (EE) and energy deficits. SG, 47 years, 162.5 cm, 49 kg, VO 2max 4 mL/kg/min -1 /2.37 L/min -1 , ran continuously for 7 days on a treadmill in 3 h blocks followed by 30 min breaks and slept from 1-5 a.m. Heart rate (HR) oxygen uptake (VO 2 …

  • English Fishery Research in Northern Waters

    Open Access•Michael Graham, Michael H Graham•ARTICLE•ARCTIC•1953

Contains description of the research vessel Ernest Holt and the hydrographical and biological program carried out in the Barents and Greenland Seas and Svalbard waters. Approximately seven voyages of 29 days each are made annually, four scientists aboard on each voyage. Observations are worked up in the laboratories of the ship (which resembles a commercial arctic trawler) by the end of each voyage, and form the basis of planning the next. The ma…
