Examining the individual-level impact of neighborhood-level violent crime on resident mental health
Being a parent/caregiver introduces a unique set of stressors into an individual's life, as they are now responsible for the well-being of someone other than themselves. To support parents and families, it is important that researchers, practitioners, and policymakers understand how different environmental factors, such as neighborhood crime, uniquely impact them. This study indicates that parents may suffer from more depressive symptoms because …
Stakeholder Attitudes Toward the Implementation of School-Based, Universal, Mental Health Screening
This paper reports on data from two trials about stakeholders' attitudes to school-based mental health screening. Study 1 reports data from 6228 students from grades 4 to 12 while Study 2 reports data from 267 caregivers and 34 educators from a larger trial. Public service management reform
Research on how public service management copes in difficult times is needed. This paper theorizes how collective action frames are created to nurture new practices in challenging contexts. The case concerns an Irish local authority, the 2008 financial crash and subsequent severe austerity. We draw on institutional work to make sense of collective action created for reform, actors’ reflexivity of their situated logics, and institutional embeddedn…

Ringed (Pusa hispida), bearded (Erignathus barbatus), spotted (Phoca largha), and ribbon seals (Histriophoca fasciata), or ice seals, are harvested for subsistence purposes by many Alaska Native communities. We address trends in the subsistence harvest of ice seals for the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta region of Alaska for more than 50 years using two types of data collected by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game: (1) bounty data collected from 1962 t…

An institutional perspective of accountants' new roles – the interplay of contradictions and praxis
Recent years have witnessed a flurry of commentaries, mainly in the professional accounting literature, on new business-oriented roles for management accountants. Often premised on the generalisation of survey data, such work undoubtedly provides useful publicity to the underlying trends. However, to date, empirical research into the dynamics of role(s) change in actual organisations is scarce. This paper describes the emergence of new team/proce…

The authors discuss several factors including, amongst others, historical development, internal labour markets, level of politicization, and the impact of reform. The authors demonstrate the utility of comparative research by analyzing the findings of the country studies and comparing the Asian countries against each …
