  • When healthy classrooms hurt: How reduced bullying isolates victimized youth through altered friendship and status dynamics

Open Access•Tamás Hoffmann, Bence Basa et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Psychology•2026

The healthy context paradox-the phenomenon that victimized youths show poorer adjustment in classrooms with lower levels of bullying-has been documented primarily for psychological outcomes but remains less explored with respect to peer social dynamics. The present study examined whether this pattern is also observable in victims' peer acceptance, and rejection beyond their friendship network. Using sociometric data from 915 Hungarian students (a…

  • Between Politics and Justice: International Criminal Law in Hungary

    Open Access•Tamás Hoffmann•ARTICLE•International Criminal Law Review•2024

Hungary has had an intense engagement with international criminal justice. During communism and democracy alike, the normative framework and language of international criminal law was used to delegitimise the political opponent. This article aims to describe the way international criminal law was repeatedly instrumentalized to not simply serve as a genuine tool for justice but also as a potent political pawn through presenting the use of internat…

    Open Access•Tamás Hoffmann•ARTICLE•Journal of the History of…•2019•References: 7

Crimes against humanity is one of the core crimes in international criminal law, whose existence is treated as a natural reaction to mass atrocities. This idea of linear progress is challenged by this article, which demonstrates that in post-Second World War Hungary an alternative approach was developed to prosecute human rights violation committed against civilian populations. Even though this concept was eventually used as a political weapon by…

Bread is baked from the crushed (or ground) seeds of grain. Around 10,000 years ago people cooked porridge or gruel and at least 3000 years ago leavened the dough of bread. In Europe, north of the Alps, it was only from the 16th century that the consumption of bread (and porridge) spread widely. Urban population concentrations grew, while yields fell due to the climatic deterioration. Greater areas of land were ploughed for grain cultivation and,…
