  • Understanding how food literacy is characterized and measured in the Pacific Islands region: A scoping review

Open Access•Bridget Horsey, Jane Taylor et al.•ARTICLE•Health Promotion International•2026

Food literacy is an emerging research area and focus of health promotion initiatives to improve nutrition outcomes. Food literacy is contextual, and definitions differ across specific populations or settings. Food literacy as a concept has not been well studied in Pacific Islander populations. The aim of this scoping review was to identify how food literacy is characterized and measured in the Pacific Islands context and describe food literacy he…

  • Commercial or industrial use of mental health data for research: Primer and best-practice guidelines from the Datamind patient/public Lived Experience Advisory Group

Open Access•Linda A Jones, Corrine Barber et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2026

Background Routinely collected health data, such as that held by United Kingdom (UK) national health services (NHS), has important research uses. However, its use requires public trust and transparency. Access by commercial/industrial organisations is especially sensitive for the public, as is mental health (MH) data. Although existing MH data science guidelines emphasise patient/public involvement (PPI), they do not cover commercial uses specifi…

Open Access•Krysten Blackford, Sharyn Burns et al.•ARTICLE•Health Promotion International•2025

This article examines recent developments to strengthen ethical health promotion practice in Australia and their global relevance. Ethical health promotion practice requires a dual foundation: structured ethical oversight combined with practitioners’ ability to implement ethical values and principles in their decision-making processes, leading to evidence-informed health promotion practice. However, health promotion organizations and practitioner…

  • It can Feel Like They've Forgotten you’: Enhancing Older Adult Participation in Urban Regeneration

    Open Access•Kimberley M Hill, Kim Woodbridge‐Dodd et al.•ARTICLE•Population Space and Place•2024•References: 10

We present two innovative and impactful interdisciplinary participatory projects highlighting interconnected older adult meanings in relation to UK town centre spaces. We argue older people occupy paradoxical positions within urban policies and planning discourses, highly visibilised as objects of concern, but profoundly marginalised and excluded. Utilising a relational functional significance framework, our findings capture valuable emplaced nar…

  • Qatchepp: A quality assessment tool for critical health promotion practice

    Open Access•Leeanne O’hara, Lily O'Hara et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2023

Background: The origins of health promotion are based in critical practice; however, health promotion practice is still dominated by selective biomedical and behavioral approaches, which are insufficient to reduce health inequities resulting from the inequitable distribution of structural and systemic privilege and power. The Red Lotus Critical Health Promotion Model (RLCHPM), developed to enhance critical practice, includes values and principles…

    Open Access•Leeanne O’hara, Jane Taylor•ARTICLE•SAGE Open•2018

Discourse about health that focuses predominantly on body weight is referred to as the weight-centered health paradigm (WCHP). In recent years, there has been a significant increase in critical analysis of the WCHP. This has resulted in arguments for a paradigm shift away from focusing on weight and focusing instead on health and well-being. The aim of this study was to identify, critique, and synthesize the values, claims, and assumptions of the…

  • ‘Important Trifles’: Jane Austen, the fashion magazine, and inter-textual consumer experience

    Jane Taylor, Jane H M Taylor•ARTICLE•History of Retailing and…•2016

Austen’s letters, maligned by E. M. Forster, a self-confessed ‘Jane Austenite’, as ‘catalogues of trivialities which do not come alive’, have in many ways brought to life the consumer world of the late eighteenth century. However, we cannot pass over Austen’s letters as simple historical records of how and where the author participated in a burgeoning consumer culture. Rather, we must consider them alongside her fiction as literary artefacts acti…

This article argues that the Select Committee inquiry was intimately connected to a set of broader anxieties and fears concerning the colony’s future. Occurring in the immediate aftermath of the Robertson Land Acts of 1861, the inquiry offers an alternative perspective on the colonial liberal d…

This article takes the Cambridge Daily News's coverage of one sensational Town versus Gown case in 1891 as a starting point for examining how this local newspaper negotiated and sustained its own journey from pre-modern to modern journalism. It highlights reportage which attempted …
