Who's Afraid of Critical Race Theory?
Radical assessment can encompass illustration, anecdote, allegory, and imagination, as well as analysis of applicable doctrine and authorities. For the past three or four months, a great deal of attention and energy has been devoted to commending and condemning Mr. Charles Murray and the late Dr. Richard Herrnstein, authors of the best-selling book on racial intelligence, The Bell Curve. Silent Covenants: Brown v. Board of Education and the Unfulfilled Hopes for Racial Reform
When the landmark Supreme Court case of Brown vs. Board of Education was handed down in 1954, many civil rights advocates believed that the decision, which declared public school segregation unconstitutional, would become the Holy Grail of racial justice. Rodrigo's Fourth Chronicle: Neutrality and Stasis in Antidiscrimination Law
I was in my office late one afternoon, puzzling over how to incorporate four recent books addressing the role of courts in protecting minority rights into the next edition of my casebook. The first of these books, Derrick Bell's Faces at the Bottom of the Well,' argues that racism is likely to prove a permanent feature of America's cultural landscape.2 The faces are those of African-Americans whose existence at the bottom of society enables even …
The SEG1 element: A new DNA region promoting stable mitotic segregation of plasmids in the zygomycete Absidia glauca
A series of new vectors for the model zygomycete Absidia glauca was constructed on the basis of the structural neomycin resistance (Neor) gene controlled by the promoter of the gene for elongation factor 1 (TEF). In order to select for transformed colonies with a stable Neor phenotype, spores from primary transformants were pooled and grown for two sporulation cycles under non-selective conditions. Southern blot analysis of DNA from single spore …
