Providers' Shift to Telerehabilitation at the U.S. Veterans Health Administration During Covid-19: Practical Applications
Telerehabilitation provides Veteran patients with necessary rehabilitation treatment. It enhances care continuity and reduces travel time for Veterans who face long distances to receive care at a Veterans Health Administration (VHA) medical facility. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic necessitated a sudden shift to telehealth–including telerehabilitation, where a paucity of data-driven guidelines exist that are specific to the practicalities enta…
Examining Older Adults’ Home Functioning Using the American Housing Survey
Identifying individuals at risk of experiencing functional difficulty at home would support timely home safety assessment and modification services, which could lead to reducing home incidents such as falls. The objective of this study was to calculate older adults’ functional difficulty at home scores using the 12 physical function items in the American Housing Survey National and Metropolitan Data (AHS). Among the 28,474 older adults selected f…
Stance
In this entry I examine the meaning, conceptual determinations, and analytic roles of “stance.” Stance is the means of indicating subjective orientations and evaluations of “states of affairs,” including individual subjects and objects. First, I describe various kinds of stance based on the kinds of evaluations they entail: epistemic (ontological status), evidential (speaker commitment and evidence), and deontic (moral obligation). I illustrate e…

Comparative study of PROMISR self-efficacy for managing chronic conditions across chronic neurologic disorders
The Labyrinth of Diversity
In order to be as inclusive as possible, I chose an ecumenical definition of Mayan sociolinguistics: the study of the interrelationship between language variation and social life among the Maya. From this vantage point, the literature is substantial, although uneven in quality, theoretical framework and regional focus.

Language and Ethnicity among the K'ichee' Maya
This book explores the articulation between “accent ” and ethnic identification in K’ichee’, a Mayan language spoken by more than one million people in the western highlands of Guatemala. Based on years of ethnographic work, it is the first anthropological examination of the social meaning of dialectal difference in any Mayan language. Romero deconstructs essentialist perspectives on ethnicity in Mesoamerica and argues that ethnic identification …
Language, Catechisms, and Mesoamerican Lords in Highland Guatemala: Addressing "God" After the Spanish Conquest
The textual sources of indigenous Christianities in Guatemala embody a complex articulation of native thought, European language ideologies, and the diachronic development of the Christianization of different areas of Mesoamerica. The evangelization of the K'iche' became a model for the construction of pastoral Q'eqchi'. In contrast, the evangelization of the Pipil demanded substantial modifications of Mexican Nahuatl doctrinal language. Mutual i…
Deputized Brokers: A Technique for a Case Study of Conservative Think Tanks in 1990s Welfare Reform
This study proposes a novel analytical technique in a case study of think tank brokerage. As brokers, think tanks structurally link foundations and media, yet they do so as representatives of a policy network consisting of corporate funders and affiliated think tanks. Print media sought their policy analysis regarding the welfare system and prescriptions for reform. Network and content methods are the bases for the presentation of the technique. …

They Don't Get Speak Our Language Right: Language Standardization, Power And Migration among the Q'eqchi' Maya
This article examines the effect of emerging vernaculars on the social diffusion and cultural roles of standardization projects in multi-dialectal migrant communities. I explore the impact of Standard Q'eqchi', a standard variety crafted by language activists, on Lowland Q'eqchi', a new vernacular variety of Q'eqchi' Mayan spoken in migrant rural communities in northwestern and northern Guatemala. Rather than being innovations, the sociolinguisti…
Use of a New Moodle Module for Improving the Teaching of a Basic Course on Computer Architecture
This paper describes how a new Moodle module, called CTPracticals, is applied to the teaching of the practical content of a basic computer organization course. In the core of the module, an automatic verification engine enables it to process the VHDL designs automatically as they are submitted. Moreover, a straightforward modification of this engine would make it possible to extend its application to other programming languages. The module provid…
