Alice Schaerr Rossi (1922–2009), a sociologist and educator, was an early analyst of the role of women in modern American society and a major researcher on life‐course issues. Her research considered the interstices of social and biological factors in such areas as stages of parenting, sexuality, and aging. Her earlier works included pathbreaking analyses of the social restrictions placed upon women's access to male‐dominated occupations.
