  • Comparison of t ‐tests for differences in sexual dimorphism between populations

    Open Access•David Lee Greene•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1989•Citada por: 10•Referencias: 3

A t ‐test that can be used for evaluating the significance of differences in metric sexual dimorphism between populations is derived directly from mathematical considerations of the differences between distributions. It is compared with the t ‐test derived by Relethford and Hodges (1985), which was based upon linear regression with sex as a dummy variable. Both are determined to be mathematically equivalent, though the one derived here is more si…

  • Fluctuating dental asymmetry and measurement error

    Open Access•David Lee Greene•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1984•Citada por: 8•Referencias: 10

Differences between the dimensions of left and right molar teeth are analyzed in the context of measurement error while considering the power of the F‐Ratio. Molar teeth from two Nubian cemeteries, 24‐S‐46 and 21‐R‐2, excavated at Kulubnarti, Sudan, were initially measured, and then remeasured to obtain data for assessing fluctuating dental asymmetry and measurement error. As has been demonstrated by other investigators, the power of the F‐Ratio …

  • Life History of a Fossil

    David Lee Greene, P Shipman•REVIEW•Man•1984•Citada por: 1

Pat Shipman sets forth the taphonomic methods of analyzing how animal remains are acted upon and altered, both by biological and by geographic phenomena, in their passage from the biosphere of bones and carcass into the lithosphere of fossils. She explains the role of disease, predation, accidents, postmortem destruction, and transport in the life history of a fossil, and provides an introduction to the relevant geological concepts and to faunal …

  • Discrete dental variations and biological distances of nubian populations

    Open Access•David Lee Greene•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1982•Citada por: 25•Referencias: 11

During the 1963–1964 field season, the University of Colorado's Nubian Expedition excavated a series of Meroitic, X‐Group, and Christian cemeteries from Wadi Halfa Sudan. Recently a joint expedition sponsored by the Universities of Colorado and Kentucky excavated two additional Christian cemeteries from Kulubnarti, some 80 miles south of Wadi Halfa. Earlier analysis of discrete dental variations demonstrated that the Wadi Halfa populations did no…

  • Tooth Wear and Culture

    Stephen Molnar, M J Barrett et al.•ARTICLE•Current Anthropology•1972•Citada por: 138

Studies of hominid fossils have frequently reported that one of their outstanding characteristics is their heavily worn teeth. Many skeletal remains of modern man also show this condition of dental attrition, which is probably related to certain cultural activities. The varieties of foods consumed by primitive man and the specialized tool functions of the teeth have left significant marks in the form of worn occlusal surfaces over the dental arch…
