Open Access•Norm R C Campbell, Norm RC Campbell et al.•ARTICLE•Revista Panamericana de Salud…•2022

As the leading risk for death, population control of increased blood pressure represents a major challenge for all countries of the Americas. In the early 1990’s, Canada had a hypertension control rate of 13%. The control rate increased to 68% in 2010, accompanied by a sharp decline in cardiovascular disease. It outlines the locations and strengths of the main collections and the variety…

  • Effects of disfluencies, predictability, and utterance position on word form variation in English conversation

Alan Bell, Daniel Jurafsky et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of the Acoustical…•2003

Function words, especially frequently occurring ones such as (the, that, and, and of ), vary widely in pronunciation. Understanding this variation is essential both for cognitive modeling of lexical production and for computer speech recognition and synthesis. This study investigates which factors affect the forms of function words, especially whether they have a fuller pronunciation (e.g., ði, ðæt, ænd, ʌv) or a more reduced or lenited pronuncia…

This subject index is intended as a route for scholars into these sources, enabling research to be planned more effectively. It is also hoped that by providing a reference work to the Scottish labour history collections, use of the manuscripts by as many people…

  • Probabilistic relations between words

Daniel Jurafsky, Alan Bell et al.•CHAPTER•Frequency and the Emergence of…•2001

The ideas of frequency and predictability have played a fundamental role in models of human language processing for well over a hundred years (Schuchardt, 1885; Jespersen, 1922; Zipf, 1929; Martinet, 1960; Oldfield & Wingfield, 1965; Fidelholz, 1975; Jescheniak & Levelt, 1994; Bybee, 1996). While most psycholinguistic models have thus long included word frequency as a component, recent models have proposed more generally that probabilistic inform…
