Open Access•Md Nawrose Fatemi, Tahmina Rahman et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cultural Heritage…•2025

Purpose To encourage natural and cultural heritage tourism, this study intends to offer a sustainable approach to resurfacing a historic canal in Old Dhaka, Bangladesh. Dholaikhal, the canal that was once a vital artery of Old Dhaka, has been encroached upon and buried beneath box culverts to accommodate the city’s road network development, resulting in environmental deterioration and the loss of cultural significance. Design/methodology/approach…

  • Tracing the past: An insight on flood risk management strategies in the development instruments of Bangladesh and Dhaka city

Open Access•Md Nawrose Fatemi, Tahmina Rahman et al.•ARTICLE•Water Policy•2020

Confronting devastating floods regularly is a critical challenge for Bangladesh. Dhaka, the capital and a megacity at the forefront of rapid, unplanned urbanization, has been experiencing consistent challenges and threats of flood since 1954. Since then, to ensure flood protection and control, the city authorities have adapted diverse flood risk management strategies (FRMS). Regardless of the overall progress in flood risk management policies in …

  • Party System Institutionalization and Pernicious Polarization in Bangladesh

    Open Access•Tahmina Rahman•ARTICLE•The Annals of the American…•2019•Cited by: 4•References: 16

This article traces the development of political polarization in Bangladesh since its 1971 war of independence. I show how polarization is elite-driven, hinging mostly on competing views of the foundation myth of the nation. One major political bloc has emerged that ties national identity tightly to religion (Islam), where the other bloc prefers a national identity tied to ethnicity and use of the Bengali language. I show how an underdeveloped pa…

    Open Access•Jennifer Mccoy, Tahmina Rahman et al.•ARTICLE•American Behavioral Scientist•2018•Cited by: 219•References: 75

This article argues that a common pattern and set of dynamics characterizes severe political and societal polarization in different contexts around the world, with pernicious consequences for democracy. Moving beyond the conventional conceptualization of polarization as ideological distance between political parties and candidates, we offer a conceptualization of polarization highlighting its inherently relational nature and its instrumental poli…

  • Trajnostni prostorski razvoj v visokošolskem izobraževanju

Open Access•Md Nawrose Fatemi, Mohammed Nawrose Fatemi et al.•ARTICLE•Urbani izziv•2015

Uporaba tehnologije slabe kakovosti, neustrezno ravnanje z ind…

  • Regeneration of the Hazaribagh urban brownfield: An imperative for Dhaka’s sustainable urban development

Open Access•Md Nawrose Fatemi, Mohammed Nawrose Fatemi et al.•ARTICLE•Urbani izziv•2015

This study investigates the projected outcome of the Bangladesh government’s decision to relocate the Hazaribagh tanneries outside Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. Ever since the early industrialisation of Bangladesh, leather processing industries have played a significant economic role. In Dhaka, these industries are mainly concentrated in Hazaribagh, an important area in the southwestern part of the city. Hazaribagh is a junction connecting th…
