    Open Access•Joana Cunha-Cruz, Linda K Ko et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2022

Background: Outcomes of surgical treatments under general anesthesia for early childhood caries of young children from low-income groups are poor requiring retreatment within 2 years. Dietary sugar is an ideal intervention target given that it is the most prominent risk factor for dental caries and there is increasing evidence of successful interventions to reduce its intake. Our aim is to investigate the feasibility and acceptability of the Thir…

  • The Kotroni Archaeological Research Project (Kasp): Evaluating ancient Aphidna using multimodal landscape analysis

Athos Agapiou, Άθως Αγαπίου et al.•ARTICLE•JOURNAL OF GREEK ARCHAEOLOGY•2022

The Kotroni Archaeological Research Project (KASP) seeks to understand the relationship between the natural and human landscape of Aphidna from prehistory through to the present, and how such rural communities contributed to the economic, social and cultural life of larger, ‘core’ centres in the region. As one of the constitutional demes of Classical Athens, Aphidna was steeped in the foundational history of the Athenian polis, which saw in it a …

  • Ministry in laïque France: Understanding history to confront present challenges

    Open Access•Stephen Davis•ARTICLE•Missiology An International Review•2021

This article attempts to provide insight into the challenging and changing religious context for cross-cultural ministry in France in the 21st century. Many of these challenges exist due to the religious history of France, the marginalization of religion, and the unwelcome presence of foreign missionaries in secular France. French laïcité presents a specificity in origin, definition, and evolution which arises from a unique historical context lea…

The Brú na Bóinne World Heritage Site, Ireland is best known for its megalithic monuments, in particular the great developed passage tombs of Knowth, Dowth, and Newgrange, and its abundance of megalithic art. However, our understanding of the wider Brú na Bóinne landscape has changed beyond all recognition in the last decade owing to the application of modern, non-invasive survey technologies – in particular LiDAR and large-scale geophysical surv…

US military operations are increasingly conducted within urban environments and with these operations come the risk of increasing the number of civilian casualties and infrastructure damage. The use of non-lethal weaponry, such as directed-energy weapons, is one method for minimizing collateral damage. This method enables US military forces to effectively fight within urban environments through force escalation capabilities. Using a series of his…

  • Reflections on Thirty Years of Fieldwork with Indigenous People

    Open Access•Stephen Davis, Stephen M Davis•ARTICLE•American Indian Culture and…•2008

INTRODUCTION\nThe conduct of fieldwork is an adventure, a voyage into the unknown. How will the local Indigenous people receive me? What will I say I am doing? What will I say is my purpose? How will I introduce myself? I have several times had the opportunity to reflect on my fieldwork, which was most often conducted among remote Indigenous groups, initially in Australia and then wider afield in Thailand, the Philippines, and Africa. I am struck…

  • Putative Ritual Deposition of Neolithic Stone Axes in a Wetland Context in Cumbria: Refining the narrative using beetle remains

    Open Access•Stephen Davis, Stephen R Davis et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Wetland Archaeology•2007•References: 3

Analysis of beetle remains from sediments thought to be contemporary to a Neolithic axe cache in the English Lake District has provided information allowing a more detailed interpretation of the depositional environment than was previously available at the time of the original excavation. The results suggest that the axes were deposited in a waterside location, possibly in shallow open water on the edge of a wooded 'island' surrounded by wetland …
