Assessing the Quality of Transition Plans in Out‐of‐Home Care
Despite transition planning practices for young people (YP) in out‐of‐home care (OoHC), many continue to experience inequities after care, suggesting that intended outcomes are not being achieved. In Victoria, Australia, a Care and Transition Plan (transition plan(s)) document is the primary mandated tool to capture YP's transition goals, actions and supports for leaving care. The quality of the transition plans may play a critical role in shapin…
Beyond Survival: Enhancing the Aged Care Experience of Those Impacted by Trauma From Childhood Institutions
Older care leavers, or Forgotten Australians, who experienced institutional and foster care up until the 1980s, are now an ageing and vulnerable population in Australia. This study draws on interviews with 24 care leavers to examine how institutional histories shape their lives and approaches to aged care. Analysis revealed four overlapping life‐story themes: the profound impact of childhood institutionalisation, the enduring effects of systemic …
Care Leavers Into Parenthood: Support Needs and Effective Practice Approaches Through Transitions From Care
There is significant local and international evidence to show that young people transitioning from care have children by age 21 at far higher rates than the general youth population. Intergenerational child protection involvement is also far higher for this group. Conducting research with care leaver parents is challenging because of parental fears of child protection involvement and removal of their own children. Without participatory and engagi…
Measuring the performance of computer vision artificial intelligence to interpret images of HIV self-testing results
Introduction: HIV self-testing (HIVST) is highly sensitive and specific, addresses known barriers to HIV testing (such as stigma), and is recommended by the World Health Organization as a testing option for the delivery of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Nevertheless, HIVST remains underutilized as a diagnostic tool in community-based, differentiated HIV service delivery models, possibly due to concerns about result misinterpretation, which …
Educational experiences and needs of students in out-of-home care: A Delphi study
Numerous studies show that children and young people in out-of-home care (OOHC) face significant disadvantage in completing high school and accessing post-secondary education. The current research involved a two-round Delphi survey which aimed to identify educational challenges and school reforms to improve the educational experiences of children and young people in OOHC. A total of 45 participants from three OOHC stakeholder groups (carers of ch…
Co‐production and adaptation of a prison‐based problem‐solving workbook to support the mental health of patients housed within a medium‐ and low‐secure forensic service
INTRODUCTION: Problem-solving skills (PSS) help to provide a systematic approach to dealing with and managing complex problems. The overall aim of this study was to assess the acceptability and feasibility of developing and adapting a prison-based PSS workbook for adults within a medium- and low-secure hospital. METHOD: We used the Medical Research Council framework in our participatory mixed methods study incorporating an adapted survey (to iden…
Online HIV prophylaxis delivery: Protocol for the ePrEP Kenya pilot study
Background: Online pharmacies in Kenya provide sexual and reproductive health products (e.g., HIV self-testing, contraception) and could be leveraged to increase the reach of HIV pre-exposure and post-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP/PEP) to populations who do not frequently attend health facilities. To date, evidence is limited for operationalizing online PrEP/PEP delivery and the type of populations reached with this differential service delivery mod…
Examining the role of lived experience consultants in an Australian research study on the educational experiences of children and young people in out-of-home care
Children and young people’s access to and engagement in education is a key determinant of future positive outcomes. Children and young people in out-of-home care disproportionally experience educational disruptions and disengagements affecting their ability to participate in schooling, further and higher education. There is increasing international interest in the participation of young people with lived experience of out-of-home (OOHC) in resear…

Materials in movement: Gold and stone in process in the Upton Lovell G2a burial
Excavated over two centuries ago, the Upton Lovell G2a 'Wessex Culture' burial has held a prominent place in research on Bronze Age Britain. In particular, was it the grave of a 'shaman' or a metalworker? We take a new approach to the grave goods, employing microwear analysis and scanning electron microscopy to map a history of interactions between people and materials, identifying evidence for the presence of Bronze Age gold on five artefacts, f…

Towards a Marine Mindset: Visiting an Aquarium Can Improve Attitudes and Intentions Regarding Marine Sustainability
The oceans are crucial for human survival, yet they are under serious threat from humans, for example through overfishing and poor waste management. We investigated two questions. First, does a leisure visit to an aquarium improve visitor attitudes and intentions towards marine sustainability, specifically regarding overfishing and pollution? Second, does an information booklet handed out in addition to the visit have additional measurable impact…

Homer and the Near East
In their historical and literary setting, the poems of Homer and the epic cycle belong to the eastern Mediterranean: they share narrative elements with neighboring cultures since the Bronze Age, and show specific connections to Near Eastern history and mythology. Evidence for these connections has increased since the nineteenth century, with the discovery of Near Eastern texts and of archaeological evidence for the transmission of ideas. This cha…

Here began Emily's career in field archaeology, despite her claim that she wandered down to Athenian Agora excavations out of pure greed (in quest of afternoon tea and biscuits).
