  • ‘ You’re alive, but are you living? ’ Exploring long Covid (LC)’s impact on social and leisure well-being for individuals and caregivers

    Jaylyn Leighton, Michelle L A Nelson et al.•ARTICLE•Psychology & Health•2025

Long COVID (LC) affects physical health and cognition, limiting participation in social and leisure activities. As a novel disabling condition following a COVID-19 infection, informal caregivers of those with LC have taken on expanded roles, including educating themselves on this diagnosis. Gathering insights from people living with LC (PWLC) and their caregivers is crucial for understanding its impact on well-being and identifying targeted rehab…

  • Developing a Conceptual Model of Compassion in Healthcare Transitions

Open Access•Sarah Munce, Robert Simpson et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2025

Compassion stands as a fundamental element in pediatric healthcare. Compassionate care is critical in delivering treatments and also in shaping the holistic experience of patients and their families. Yet, a unified understanding of what constitutes compassion from the perspectives and preferences of pediatric patients and their families is unknown. In particular, the significance of compassionate care during transitions from pediatric to adult he…

  • I have eight different files at eight different places”

    Open Access•Kristina M Kokorelias, Tin‐Suet Joan Lee et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023

Introduction: Most of the existing research on the transition from pediatric-to-adult care has focused on healthcare and social care settings as a homogenous group of services, without a specific focus on community or rehabilitation services. As such, the facilitators and barriers to implementing and sustaining these services during the transition from pediatric to adult care are not well established. An understanding of such factors may help to …

  • Patients, Caregivers, and Healthcare Providers’ Experiences with Covid Care and Recovery across the Care Continuum

    Open Access•Marina B Wasilewski, Zara Szigeti et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023•References: 4

Inpatient rehabilitation was viewed as higher quality due to the slower paced care. Care transitions were distressing for stakeholders and enhanced integration between acute and rehabilitation care were suggested to improve patient handover. A lack of rehabilitation access led to recovery stagnating for patients discharged to the community. Telerehab may improve the transition to home and ensure access to adequate rehabilitation and support in th…

As bio-capital in the form of medical knowledge, skills and investments moves with greater frequency from its origin in First World industrialized settings to resource-poor communities with weak or little infrastructure, countries with emerging economies are starting to expand new indigenous science bases of their own. The case studies here, from the UK, West Africa, Sri Lanka, Papua New Guinea, Latin America and elsewhere, explore the forms of c…

  • Infection prevention and control across the continuum of Covid‐19 care

    Open Access•Marina B Wasilewski, Zara Szigeti et al.•ARTICLE•Health Expectations•2022

INTRODUCTION: Healthcare facilities adopted restrictive visitor policies as a result of the COVID-19 (COVID) pandemic. Though these measures were necessary to promote the safety of patients, families and healthcare providers, it led to isolation and loneliness amongst acute care inpatients that can undermine patient rehabilitation and recovery. The study objectives were to (1) explore how infection prevention and control (IP&C) measures impacted …

  • Some moral critique of theodicy is misplaced, but not all

    Open Access•Rosemary Michelle Simpson, Robert Simpson•ARTICLE•Religious Studies•2009

Several recent critiques of theodicy have incorporated some form of moral objection to the theodical enterprise, in which the critic argues that one ought not to engage in the practice of theodicy. In defending theodical practice against the moral critique, Atle O. Søvik argues that the moral critique (1) begs the question against theodicy, and (2) misapprehends the implications of the claim that it is inappropriate to espouse a theodicy in certa…

  • Design for development

Robert Simpson, Robert W Simpson et al.•ARTICLE•Development in Practice•2007

This article reviews current methodologies for the design of development projects and identifies foundational reasons for conflict between design approaches and participatory methods. A number of alternative approaches to the design of interventions in social systems are examined, and the potential application of some of these new ideas within a visioning process that is based on communicative rationality is explored. We conclude that there are m…

  • Individual Differences in Recall

Open Access•Stuart Miller, David Fleishmann et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1971

22 high- and 22 low-memory span Ss (H-MS, L-MS) sorted 52 words into anywhere from 2 to 7 categories. The H-MS group later recalled more of these words than the L-MS group. The effect of memory span upon recall was attributed to the selection of a significantly larger number of categories by the H-MS Ss. The unaccounted for variance in recall was discussed in terms of past experience and innate differences
