  • Towards a Model of Scarp Retreat and Drainage Evolution: Evidence from Ghana, West Africa

    This study focuses upon relationships between evolving drainage systems and processes of scarp formation and retreat. Covering some 45 % of Ghana's surface area, a series of palaeozoic sandstones and shales lie in a shallow structural basin bounded on the north and south-west by vertical escarpments. These are dramatically long, 64 km and 176 km, respectively, and high, rising locally to 300 m. Outliers and other evidence suggest that the scarps …
