This article describes an example of collaborative practice evaluation. A client and a clinician work together to overcome an impasse in the treatment process by evaluating the clinician's interventions in a session. The evaluation involves clinician and client sharing their perceptions and experiences of the helpfulness or unhelpfulness of the therapist's responses orally and in writing. One example of helpful and one of unhelpful intervention a…

The Use of Negro Dialect by Harriet Beecher Stowe
WHEN Uncle Tom's Cabin was written in 1851-52, Harriet Beecher Stowe possessed a certain amount of first-hand information concerning the negro race. As a child, she had heard in prayers and sermons many references to the slave, but not until the Beecher family reached Cincinnati in 1832 did she see negroes in any considerable number. In 1833 came her memorable visit to a plantation in Kentucky and her first contact with southern slaves on their o…

Cullen Bryant at Williams College
Bryant and The North American Review
During the last months of i8i6, Bryant apparently wrote no verse. In I8I7 and i8i8, he composed two uninspired odes for the Berkshire Agricultural Society,3 translated Love's Power,4 and revised his translation of a fragment from Simonides5 and his paraphrase of David's lament for Jonathan.6 Only twice was Bryant touched by the divine fire-in i8i8 when he wrote The Burial Place,7 and in I8I9 when he composed Green River.8
William Cullen Bryant and Yale
WR HEN, in the spring of 81 I, Cullen Bryant' returned from Williams College to the homestead at Cummington, Massachusetts,2 he was welcomed joyously. Immediately after his arrival, calf was killed; but his mother did not indicate in her laconic diary whether this was done in honor of the young Sophomore's home-coming.3 During the summer he turned to his books again in preparation for Yale, to which he proposed to transfer in the autumn. Meanwhil…
