  • A Decade of HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Cascade Monitoring: National Trends and Persistent Gaps in PrEP Use Among Gay, Bisexual and Queer Men and Non-Binary People in Australia

Open Access•James Macgibbon, Daniel Storer et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS and Behavior•2026

We have monitored Australia's maturing HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) program for the past decade, providing a unique view of long-term implementation among gay, bisexual and queer men and non-binary people. Using two national surveys, the GBQ + Community Periodic Surveys (GCPS, 2014-2023, N = 78,378) and the PrEPARE Project (2017-2023, N = 5,278), we constructed and iteratively refined cascades to monitor PrEP suitability, awareness, use, a…

This study sought to evaluate medical students' confidence using generative AI for this purpose, and overall attitudes towards its use. • Estimating Prevention-Effective Adherence to HIV Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Among Australian Gay, Bisexual and Queer Men and Non-binary People: A Mixed-Methods Analysis

    Open Access•James Macgibbon, A K Smith et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS and Behavior•2025

Oral HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is highly effective when taken appropriately at times of HIV risk, termed "prevention-effective adherence". To understand suboptimal adherence, we refined a brief measure for surveys among gay, bisexual and queer men and non-binary (GBQ+) people. We used a mixed-methods design, comprising a national, online cross-sectional survey (June-July 2023) and cognitive interviews (August-October 2023). Logistic reg…

    Open Access•A K Smith, A TAIT SMITH et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS and Behavior•2025

Inclusive language in data collection is essential for effective and sustained engagement with marginalised populations. The historic use of imprecise conceptualisations of gender and sexuality in the field of HIV and sexual health research has been challenged in the last decade, particularly cisnormative and monosexist assumptions about identity and practice. This study reports on the process of redesigning a repeated cross-sectional survey ques…

  • Condom Failure Among HIV-Negative Men in Serodiscordant Relationships in Australia, Brazil, and Thailand

Open Access•James Gray, Garrett Prestage et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS and Behavior•2024

Condoms continue to be used by many gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBM) to reduce the risk of HIV transmission. However this is impacted by condom failure events, defined here as condom breakage and slippage. In a prospective, observational cohort study of 343 HIV serodiscordant male couples recruited through high HIV caseload clinics and hospitals between 2012 and 2016 in Australia, Brazil, and Thailand, condom failure rates…

  • Making decisions about attainment grouping in mathematics: Teacher agency and autonomy in Norway

Elisabeta Eriksen, Yvette Solomon et al.•ARTICLE•Research Papers in Education•2024•References: 32

Grouping by attainment is a relatively new and contested practice in Norway, where strong historical discourses of heterogeneous education are under pressure from international test comparisons, particularly in mathematics. At the same time, research indicates that Norwegian teachers have a high degree of autonomy in education policy enactment. Analysing thirteen Norwegian mathematics teachers’ reflections on grouping practices, we seek to unders…

  • Agreements, Behaviour, and Change: Sex Outside the Relationship in Male HIV-negative Partners in HIV Serodiscordant Relationships in Australia, Brazil, and Thailand

Open Access•James Gray, Garrett Prestage et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS and Behavior•2023

Male HIV serodiscordant couples have diverse relationship agreements regarding sex outside the relationship. We examined the relationship agreements as described by 343 male HIV-negative partners in HIV serodiscordant relationships in Australia, Brazil and Thailand participating in a multi-year cohort study. At baseline, 125 (34.1%) HIV-negative partners reported no agreement, 115 (33.5%) had a monogamous agreement, and 103 (37.9%) had an open ag…

    Open Access•James Gray•ARTICLE•Languages•2021•References: 25

This paper investigates the modal and non-modal uses and readings of the purposive suffix in the Western Desert (Pama-Nyungan) language Pintupi-Luritja. It is shown that the suffix is associated with a range of root-modal readings, with some variability in modal force. The modal readings are investigated in a variety of non-upward-entailing environments and compared with those of other variable modal force languages as described in the literature…

The present study examined the relationship between body image and adolescent girls' activity on the social networking site (SNS) Facebook (FB). Research has shown that elevated Internet "appearance exposure" is positively correlated with increased body image disturbance among adolescent girls, and there is a particularly strong association with FB use. The present study sought to replicate and extend upon these findings by identifying the specif…

    Open Access•James Gray, J A Muir Gray•ARTICLE•Alternative Law Journal•2012•References: 1

In his entertainingly polemical article The Emperor's New Legal Education Theory, Dan Svantesson considered the place of legal education theory in Australian law schools. As his choice of title might suggest, Svantesson seeks to question the value of academics theorising about their teaching, in particular, of academics conducting research in education theory unless it is their main discipline. The aim of this article is to respond to two points …

Two continental glaciations, both considered Wisconsin in age have been noted in the eastern Mealy Mountains. The earlier ice sheet reached a minimum elevation of 3,000 feet (925 m.) and may have overtopped the summit plateaus of 4,000 feet (1,240 m.). The ice moved from west to east. The vertical limit of the later ice sheet varied from 2,300 feet (710 m.) in the west to 1,800 feet (555 m.) in the east. Cirques were carved prior to both glaciati…

In March 1851, both archbishops and twenty bishops of the Anglican Church issued a public statement in which they asserted the ‘undoubted identity of the English Church before and after the Reformation’—and we do not have to look far for an explanation of this manifesto; in 1850 the steady trickle of Anglican recruits to Roman Catholicism had been complemented by the so-called ‘Papal Agression’ which re-established Roman Catholic titular sees in …

At the Council of Lambeth in 1261, Archbishop Boniface of Canterbury promulgated canonical legislation which may fairly be described as a belated retort by the ecclesia Anglicana to the Constitutions of Clarendon. Almost a century before, Henry II at Clarendon had insisted on a formal and public recordatio vel recognitio of the limitations imposed on canonical jurisdiction by English law and custom, and after the murder of Becket he had achieved …
