  • Seasonal marine carbon system processes in an Arctic coastal landfast sea ice environment observed with an innovative underwater sensor platform

Open Access•Patrick J Duke, Brent Else et al.•ARTICLE•Elementa Science of the…•2021

Studying carbon dioxide in the ocean helps to understand how the ocean will be impacted by climate change and respond to increasing fossil fuel emissions. The marine carbonate system is not well characterized in the Arctic, where challenging logistics and extreme conditions limit observations of atmospheric CO2 flux and ocean acidification. Here, we present a high-resolution marine carbon system data set covering the complete cycle of sea-ice gro…

  • The Rural-Urban Continuum: Real but Relatively Unimportant

    Richard Dewey•ARTICLE•American Journal of Sociology•1960•Cited by: 41

The use of the terms "rural" and "urban" in current publications reveals a grosslack of agreement concerning their referents. This is interpreted as resulting from the failure to distinguish the influences upon man's actions of density and size of population, on the one hand, from the influences of culture, on the other. Although these two categories of influences cannot be severed in actuality, they must be distinguished if the nature of communi…

  • Peripheral Expansion in Milwaukee County

    Richard Dewey•ARTICLE•American Journal of Sociology•1948

The peripheral expansion in Milwaukee County is a movement of people from the better sections of the city who seek to avoid certain disadvantages of the city without depriving themselves of the urban services to which they have become accustomed. A survey is reported which revealed the services they deem essential. The study warrants the inference that realistic city planning can check much of this exodus
