  • Solving the Ecological Problems of Capitalism

    Open Access•Andrew W Jones•ARTICLE•Organization & Environment•2011

In this article, the author identifies three ecological problems of capitalism—growth, technology, and consumption—that must be solved to develop a sustainable society. • Do Foreign-Owned Plants Pollute More

    Don Grant, Andrew W Jones•ARTICLE•Society & Natural Resources•2004•References: 1

Critics of globalization and capitalist expansion suggest that foreign-owned plants pollute more than domestically owned ones. • Do Manufacturers Pollute Less Under the Regulation-Through-Information Regime? What Plant-Level Data Tell Us

    Open Access•Don Grant, Andrew W Jones•ARTICLE•Sociological Quarterly•2004•Cited by: 3•References: 15

Because past studies on the effects of right-to-know laws have relied on highly aggregated data, it is still unknown whether being located in a state with a funded right-to-know program has a significant effect on the environmental performance of individual manufacturing plants. Nor has it been shown that such effects exist net of other plant characteristics that are known to increase pollution. To remedy this situation, we have used plant-level …

Open Access•Don Sherman Grant Ii, Don Sherman Grant et al.•ARTICLE•American Sociological Review•2002•Cited by: 43•References: 41

In their recent efforts to uncover the social structural causes of pollution, sociologists have explored the environmental effects of such factors as urbanization, modernization, class hierarchies, long economic cycles, and the world-system. However, they have yet to study what some consider to be the most intensive and effective environmental destroyer of all - organizations - and the effects of their structures. This paper proposes a new line o…
