  • Integrating Machine Learning and Scenario Simulation to Decouple Multi‐Scale Ecosystem Service Trade‐Offs/Synergy in Shaanxi Province

Open Access•Peidong Han, Guang Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Land Degradation and Development•2026

The complex terrain and significant spatial heterogeneity of ecosystem services (ESs) in Shaanxi Province (SXP) make it crucial to analyze their multi‐scale trade‐offs/synergies and driving mechanisms for regional ecological management. This study integrates machine learning (SRF, SVM, etc.) with scenario simulation (PLUS‐ InVEST) to evaluate the spatiotemporal differentiation and interaction effects of water production (WY), carbon storage (CS),…

  • The cream-skimming behaviors of tertiary hospitals under medical alliances: Evidence from China

Open Access•Zixuan Peng, Xu Chen et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal for Equity…•2025

This study demonstrated that tertiary hospitals "siphoned-off" outpatients with public health insurance coverage from primary care facilities. Outpatients who were older, were male, with chronic diseases, and with public health insurance coverage were more likely to experience not only higher referral rates but poorer quality of outpatient care after being referred from tertiary hospitals to primary care facilities. Tailored policies are required…

  • Evaluating the “geographical awareness” of individuals: An exploratory analysis of twitter data

    Chen Xu, D W S Wong et al.•ARTICLE•Cartography and Geographic…•2013•Cited by: 6•References: 8

A major theme in the geographical studies of social media content such as tweets from Twitter is to extract the locations of content providers (e.g., Twitter users) in order to track their movements or activity patterns. This framework also has been used to detect the dispersion of ideas over space and time. Another theme is to assess how the interaction of these providers may vary between the physical and virtual spaces. However, few geographica…

Chen Xu, Libao Jin et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of the American…•2023•Cited by: 3•References: 61

Constructing a data-driven spatial contact network model is challenging in epidemiological research. In this study, we examine the applicability of geotagged Twitter data as an instrumental data source for tackling such a challenge. Geotagged Twitter data carrying geolocations of the account users have the strength for longitudinal data collection at a massive scale. Still, the unstructured nature of the data exerts significant methodological and…

Chen Xu, Calvin Jones et al.•ARTICLE•Regional Studies•2019•Cited by: 2•References: 2

The regional economic contribution of tourism-related inward investment is difficult to assess. This is due to data availability problems, and with inward investment in such industries often being dwarfed by that in either manufacturing or other services. However, there are cases where tourism demand represents a significant proportion of regional economic demand, and often in regions where there are economic development challenges. The paper sug…

  • Fear of Rejection or Concern for Fairness: The Proposer's Offering Behavior in the Ultimatum Game

Open Access•Yi Ding, Ding Yi et al.•ARTICLE•Social Behavior and Personality…•2014

In previous studies of the Ultimatum Game (UG), it has been found that proposers do not maximize self-interest by making extremely unfair offers, but instead make relatively fair offers. The main issue is whether or not the proposer's fair behavior is motivated by fear of rejection or by a concern for fairness. We, therefore, conducted this study to examine the impact on the proposer's decision in the UG when information was obtained about the re…

  • Electrophysiological evidences of different emotional regulation strategies between the avoidant and the secure attachment individuals in the context of lovers, intimacy

YANG Qingqing, Chen Xu et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica Sinica•2018

  • Intranasal oxytocin modulates neural functional connectivity during human social interaction

Open Access•J K Rilling, Xiangchuan Chen et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•2018

Oxytocin (OT) modulates social behavior in primates and many other vertebrate species. Studies in non-primate animals have demonstrated that, in addition to influencing activity within individual brain areas, OT influences functional connectivity across networks of areas involved in social behavior. Previously, we used fMRI to image brain function in human subjects during a dyadic social interaction task following administration of either intrana…

  • Banking and inequality: US state evidence

Open Access•Xu Chen, Chen Xu et al.•ARTICLE•The Social Science Journal•2018•References: 3

The question of how financial development affects economic inequality is a subject of much debate. This paper adds to this literature by examining whether banking deregulation affects income inequality using state-level data from the United States from the late 20th century. Specifically, we test the hypothesis that the deregulation of interstate branch-banking restrictions had an effect on income inequality as measured by the Gini Coefficient an…

This paper proposes a novel two-order optimization model of the division of time-of-day control segmented points of road intersection to address the limitations of the randomness of artificial experience, avoid the complex multi-factor division calculation, and optimize the traditional model over traffic safety and data-driven methods. For the first-order optimization-that is, deep optimization of the model input data-we first increase the dimens…

  • High risk of growth cessation of planted larch under extreme drought

Open Access•Xianliang Zhang, Xue Li et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2020

Larch trees are widely used in afforestation and timber plantations. Yet, little is known on how planted larch trees cope with increasing drought. We used a tree-ring network of 818 trees from 31 plantations spanning most of the distribution of Larix principis-rupprechtii to investigate how extreme drought influences larch radial growth in northern China. We found that summer drought, rather than temperature or precipitation, had the strongest re…
