The Origin and Circulation of Cinnabar in Neolithic Age of China
Cinnabar, valued for its blood‐like hue endowed with spiritual and religious symbolism, constituted one of the most prized pigments in ancient China. This material was extensively applied in lacquerware production during the Liangzhu culture (3300–2300 bce ). Our analytical approach employed EA‐IRMS and MC‐ICP‐MS to respectively characterize sulfur and mercury isotopes in Liangzhu cinnabar artifacts and cinnabar ores. Results revealed that combin…

Navigating Campus Crisis
This study investigated experiences and decision-making strategies of Student Affairs Officers (SAOs) facing significant crisis at a Sino-foreign cooperative university during the COVID-19 pandemic. Using habitual decision-making and 4 R crisis management frameworks, the study examined how SAOs navigated crisis management, anticipated student needs, and exercised decision-making authority. Findings highlight the importance of empowering SAOs thro…

Study on the impact of the DRG model on human resource allocation at public hospitals
Diagnosis-related groups (DRGs) are gaining prominence in healthcare systems worldwide to standardize potential payments to hospitals. This study, conducted across public hospitals, investigates the impact of DRG implementation on human resource allocation and management practices. The research findings reveal significant changes in job roles and skill requirements based on a mixed-methods approach involving 70 healthcare professionals across var…
Visualizing Routes With AI-Discovered Street-View Patterns
Street-level visual appearances play an important role in studying social systems, such as understanding the built environment, driving routes, and associated social and economic factors. It has not been integrated into a typical geographical visualization interface (e.g., map services) for planning driving routes. In this article, we study this new visualization task with several new contributions. First, we experiment with a set of AI technique…

Does the combination of low-carbon and innovative policies promote the high-quality development of enterprises?—A quasi-natural experiment based on the “dual pilot” of low carbon and innovation cities
Tracing the domestication dynamics of Sus scrofa populations during the liangzhu culture periods
This paper investigates the domestication dynamics of Sus scrofa populations during the middle and late Liangzhu culture periods through an analysis of molar morphology. Utilizing archaeological data from sites such as Bianjiashan and Meirendi, we examine patterns in molar size and shape among wild boars and domestic pigs . Our findings reveal significant differences in M2 size between wild boars from Northern and Southern China, modern domestic …

Can Internet Construction Promote Urban Green Development? A Quasi-Natural Experiment from the “Broadband China”
Broadband, as a key element of Internet infrastructure, plays an important role in breaking down barriers to the flow of production factors and promoting green economic transformation. Using the "Broadband China" strategy as a quasi-natural experiment, this study examines the impact and mechanisms of Internet infrastructure on urban green development by constructing a multi-period Difference-in-Differences (DID) model based on panel data from 277…

Identifying Shan-Shui characteristics for national landscape heritage
The recognition of landscape as cultural heritage has increasingly brought together work on landscape and heritage in recent years. In a practical sense, this has been recognised through effective landscape management strategies that have sought to encompass wider information on the historic environment and its associated values. Across Europe in recent years, effective assessment and management of the historic environment have developed through …
English Spelling Variation and Change in Newspapers in Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan
English spelling has a reputation for being notoriously difficult to learn, whether for native speakers of English or for those who learn it as an additional language. An additional problem for EFL learners is that there are two somewhat different systems to choose between: the British system and the American one. As Bondesen (2004: 4) points out, ‘although the two spelling systems are much more similar than they are different, there is variation…

Labor Costs for Prehistoric Earthwork Construction
This paper examines choices of earth-working tools made by Neolithic Chinese populations. In the Hemudu Culture (7000-5000 B.P.), bone (scapula) digging tools were used from the earliest times, whereas peoples in surrounding areas used stone spades. A range of experiments on manufacturing costs, durability, and use efficiency under realistic conditions show that bone and stone spades are functionally equivalent when soils are soft, but that stone…
