  • The Flooding of Lagash (Iraq)

Open Access•Reed Goodman, Liviu Giosan et al.•ARTICLE•Geoarchaeology•2025•References: 3

High‐resolution remote sensing, magnetometry, and trench stratigraphy identify a significant flood event at Lagash (modern Tell al‐Hiba) during the late Early Dynastic period (ca. 2400–2350 BC ). Satellite imagery and magnetometry reveal a 90‐meter‐wide meander belt—3–15 times broader than documented canals—adjacent to primary temple districts. Test trenches further exposed over one meter of flood‐deposited silt covering existing architecture. Op…

  • Fluvial landscapes of the Harappan civilization

Open Access•Liviu Giosan, Peter D Clift et al.•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the National…•2012

The collapse of the Bronze Age Harappan, one of the earliest urban civilizations, remains an enigma. We report morphologic and chronologic evidence indicati…

  • Democratic Musical Chairs? Romania's Post-1989 Electoral Geography

Aurelian Giugăl, Ron Johnston et al.•ARTICLE•Space and Polity•2011•Cited by: 3•References: 10

Romania is one of a number of states that experienced a rapid shift to representative democracy after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. In a well-known model of electoral developments in newly emerging democracies, Flint and Taylor have identified a characteristic volatility of support for political parties between elections because of their failure to meet popular expectations, which is accompanied by a volatile electoral geography. The exper…
