  • The appearance and disappearance of Birket El-Kamar, Jaffa, Israel

Élie Haddad, Haim Goren et al.•ARTICLE•Palestine Exploration Quarterly•2020•Citada por: 1

The harbor of Jaffa is one of the oldest in the land of Israel and was a significant entry from the sea for the last 4000 years, from the Middle Bronze Age to the twentieth century. Birket el-Kamar was a sandy bay in the coastal strip south of modern Jaffa harbor that had been part of the harbor during various past periods, but no longer exists. Its name, meaning ‘the Moon Pool’, occurs in historical archival documents, mainly maps, from the nine…

  • An Early Islamic Inter-Settlement Agroecosystem in the Coastal Sand of the Yavneh Dunefield, Israel

Itamar Taxel, Dorit Sivan et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Field Archaeology•2018•Citada por: 2•Referências: 53

This study examines the remains of an agricultural complex found in the Yavneh coastal dunefield, central Israel. Known as a plot-and-berm agroecosystem, the complex consisted of earthworks in a crisscross pattern of sand berms and sunken agricultural plots that were used for groundwater harvesting. The plots, which provided easy access to the high groundwater table and the berms around them, are overlaid by a gray sand unit covered by pottery sh…

  • Evaluating ancient coastal wells as sea‐level indicators from the coast of Israel

Open Access•Reuven Vunsh, Orly Tal et al.•ARTICLE•Geoarchaeology•2017•Citada por: 2•Referências: 6

This paper re‐evaluates previous records and adds new data to the relative sea level (RSL; namely the sea level related to the level of the national terrestrial datum) reconstruction in Israel from the last 2400 years based on ancient coastal water wells. Different methods for obtaining the most accurate modern offset between coastal groundwater level and mean sea level are also tested, since this is a crucial component for using wells as reliabl…

  • Anthropogenic overprints on natural coastal aeolian sediments

    Open Access•Gilad Shtienberg, Justin K Dix et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropocene•2017•Citada por: 2•Referências: 57

  • Palaeo-environmental archive of groundwater–surface water interaction zone, the Kebara wetlands, Carmel coast, Israel

Open Access•Dorit Sivan, Noam Greenbaum et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2016

  • The interplay between relative sea-level rise and sediment supply at the distal part of the Nile littoral cell

    Open Access•Hadar Elyashiv, Revital Bookman et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2015•Citada por: 1•Referências: 15

During Holocene sea-level rise, coastal areas became transitional environments as marine incursion covered the land. Changing conditions resulted in dynamic depositional environments that recorded the migration and stabilization of modern shorelines. These processes are viewed in the Zevulun Plain (Haifa Bay, Israel) record located in the northern edge of the Nile littoral cell. Sedimentological and palaeontological analyses combined with dating …

  • Oxygen isotope composition of Sparidae (sea bream) tooth enamel from well-dated archaeological sites as an environmental proxy in the East Mediterranean

    Open Access•Guy Sisma‐Ventura, G Sisma-Ventura et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2015•Citada por: 7•Referências: 5

  • The origin and disappearance of the short-lived coastal wetlands of the Late Pleistocene – Early Holocene Transition on the Carmel coast, Israel

    Open Access•Dorit Sivan•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2012

  • The origin and disappearance of the late Pleistocene–early Holocene short-lived coastal wetlands along the Carmel coast, Israel

Open Access•Dorit Sivan, Noam Greenbaum et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2011

The formation of short-lived backswamps along the Carmel coast of Israel coincides with the rapid global sea-level rise during the late Pleistocene–early Holocene transition. The current study shows that the wetland phenomena originated around 10,000 yr ago and dried up shortly before the local Pre-Pottery Neolithic humans settled on the wetland dark clay sediments 9430 cal yr BP. Palaeontological and stable-isotope data were used in this study t…

  • Holocene evolution of the Haifa Bay area, Israel, and its influence on ancient tell settlements

Dov Zviely, Dorit Sivan et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2006•Citada por: 7•Referências: 9

The geographical evolution of Haifa Bay and Zevulun Plain, Israel, from the late Pleistocene to the Holocene, is based on detailed analysis of drilled cores. At the beginning of the Holocene the Bay area was still under terrestrial conditions. Only about 9500 to 9000 cal. yr BP, when sea level rose to about 35-30 m below present sea level (b.s.l.), did Nile-derived sand start to bypass the Carmel headland and Haifa Bay come into existence as a mo…

  • Quaternary Stratigraphy and Paleogeography of the Galilee Coastal Plain, Israel

Open Access•Dorit Sivan, Gedaliahu Gvirtzman et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•1999

The Quaternary deposits in the Galilee coastal plain comprise alternating calcareous sandstone, red loam, dark clay, and uncemented sand. The calcareous sandstone in the lower part of the sequence represents a Pliocene to early Pleistocene marine transgression, and is covered unconformably by the late Quaternary sequence. The base of this sequence has an estimated age of ∼500,000 yr. It is covered unconformably by marine calcareous sandstone in t…

  • Paleo-Urban Development and Late Quaternary Environmental Change in the Akko Area

Moshe Inbar, Dorit Sivan•ARTICLE•Paléorient•1983•Citada por: 5
