The Zones of Fragility: Outlaws and the Forms of Violence in the Ottoman Empire
This study explores the relationship between violence and power through examining the archival documents about the outlaws in the Ottoman Empire from 1852 to 1876. I argue that the outlaws and the use of violence in the public sphere defied the power of the Ottoman Empire. Thereof, the present study agrees with the main thesis of Hannah Arendt about the destructive influence of violence on power. However, I take Hannah Arendt's argument on violen…

The unyielding public resistance examples in different cultural geographies, which are fragmented, limited and yet significant and expanding struggles, convey the message that the global order of the Powerful has entered the age of stagnation. This study addresses the role and policies of Libera Sport, an Italian nongovernmental civil society organization that fights against the Italian mafia groups through sports. On the one hand, this article reinterprets and applies the cultural hegemony theory of Antonio Gramsci both to the Mafia and Libera Sport. On the other hand, habitus and cultural capital notions of Pierre Bourdieu are used to express the struggle between the Mafia and Libera…
Italian civil society against the Mafia: From perceptions to expectations
Anti-Mafia Policies in Italy: The Need for Collaborative Governance and Transition of the Policy Actors from Isolation to Coalition
First paragraph: This article puts forth two main arguments. The first aim of this article is to simplify and classify the actors in the field of anti-mafia policies. Recently, classification of anti-mafia movements in Italy has been divided into direct and indirect policies through a methodology-based approach for implementation of these policies, which should be complementary to each other. While this article agrees that classification of direc…
