  • Women and children first

Open Access•Maria El Bizri, Eleanor Langlois et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2025

Violent conflicts today are reported in every region of the world and often lasting for protracted periods of time. More than 45 armed conflicts are active in the Middle East and North Africa alone, over 35 in Africa, 21 in Asia, 7 in Europe, and 6 in Latin America [1]. These conflicts leave indelible marks on societies, yet their effects are neither evenly distributed nor universally endured, with women, newborns, and children being among the mo…

  • Evaluating the Fluted Points from Spring Lake, Texas

    H L Smith, Amy Reid et al.•ARTICLE•PaleoAmerica•2022

The Spring Lake Site (41HY160) in San Marcos, located along the Balcones Escarpment in central Texas, produced fluted points that appear diagnostic of Clovis technology as well as ice-age megafauna remains. Unfortunately, these materials were recovered in what appears to be mixed deposits within the lake itself. For over 40 years, researchers have hypothesized that the points represent Clovis technology and presence at the site. We use a two-dime…

  • Heritage, Reconciliation and Cross-Border Cooperation in Cyprus

    Open Access•Amy Reid, A M Reid•ARTICLE•Anthropological Journal of…•2021

Cultural heritage in Cyprus has been a contentious issue throughout the island’s tumultuous history. The official partition of the island in 1974, after years of conflict between the Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities, has resulted in the destruction and neglect of heritage sites on both sides of the Cypriot ‘border’. However, in recent years there has been an increase in organisations that aim to use heritage as a tool to unite both communiti…

  • Integrating community outreach into a quality improvement project to promote maternal and child health in Ghana

Open Access•Leslie E Cofie, Clare Barrington et al.•ARTICLE•Global Public Health•2014

Quality improvement (QI) is used to promote and strengthen maternal and child health services in middle- and low-income countries. Very little research has examined community-level factors beyond the confines of health facilities that create demand for health services and influence health outcomes. We examined the role of community outreach in the context of Project Fives Alive!, a QI project aimed at improving maternal and under-5 outcomes in Gh…

  • Data Recovery and Analysis at the Texas State University Ticket Kiosk Project, Located at 41HY160, Spring Lake, Hays County, Texas

Open Access•Jon C Lohse, Jon Lohse et al.•ARTICLE•Index of Texas Archaeology Open…•2013

This report describes the results of data recovery-level archaeological investigations carried out under Texas Antiquities Permit No. 5938 at State Antiquities Landmark 41HY160. The purpose of the project was to offset the impact to cultural deposits at the site stemming from the installation of service utilities for a new restroom facility and ticket kiosk at The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment, (formerly the River Systems Institute…
