Bioarchaeological Evidence for the Health Status of a Late Bronze and Early Iron Ages Bardzryal Population (Armenia)
Skeletal evidence of trauma in a Late Antiquity woman from Beniamin, Shirak Province, Armenia
This study presents a detailed analysis of the skeletal remains of a single adult female (30–39 years) from Burial 2 at the Beniamin cemetery, Armenia, dating to the Late Antiquity period (1st century BC – 3rd century AD). The individual was interred in a secondary context within a stone cist, displaying pronounced flexion of the knees and hips, with the thoracic cage, pelvis, and limbs preserved in anatomical position, suggesting that the body m…
A dental non-metric analysis of the Classical/Late Antiquity period (1st century BC–3rd century AD) population from Armenian Plateau
The aim of the study is to assess of the biological distance between the populations from the Armenian Plateau and Georgia, with samples from Eastern Europe, and Central Asia on the basis of the frequency of dental non-metric traits. It is well known that these traits are characterised by high inter-population differentiation, low sexual dimorphism, and their recording is loaded by relatively small intra and inter observer error. The dental non-m…
Diachronic Evidence in Nonmetric Morphological Characters of Teeth in Armenian Highland and Georgia Populations
The aim of the study is the assessment of biological distance between populations from Arme-nian highland and Georgia based on the frequency of nonmetric odontological traits. These traits are characterized by high inter-population differentiation, low sexual dimorphism, and relatively small intra and inter observer recordation error. This paper presents the results of the odontological differentiation of human populations from Armenian highland …
Trepanation and artificial cranial deformations in ancient Armenia
The purpose of the paper is to review surgical and ritual practices on people living on the Shirak Plateau (Armenia) during the Late Antiquity period (1st century BC – 3rd century AD) and is based on human remains uncovered at sites in Beniamin, Black Fortress I, Shirakavan, Karmrakar and Vardbakh. The basic demographic data for these cases, including the age and sex of the skeleton, the precise location of the trepanation, the form of the trepan…
