北海道礼文島に所在する浜中2遺跡の学術調査が行われた2013年7月から8月にかけて,筆者らは礼文町の小中高校向けの考古学教育普及プログラムを実施した。遺跡や出土遺物を利用した考古学教育の目的は,(1)実際に行われている発掘調査に触れることで考古学や人類学への理解を促進する,(2)礼文町で実施されている総合学習「礼文学」が目指す郷土史理解を支援する,(3)礼文町の文化遺産とその保護の重要性を喚起する,ことである。本稿では,考古学と地域社会との連携に関する昨今の動きを概観してから,昨年度実施した小中高校生に対する考古学教育普及プログラムを紹介し,最後に今後の課題と展望を述べる
