Decoupled abiotic and biotic drivers of aboveground and topsoil organic carbon stocks in temperate forests
Forests are major components of global carbon (C) cycling, and hence, it is crucial to explore the drivers of forest functions related to C sequestration. Here, using the multiple linear regression models (MLMs) and structural equation models (SEMs), we evaluated how abiotic (i.e., soil nutrients and topography) and biotic [i.e., functional trait diversity (FTD) and functional trait identity (FTI)] factors regulate aboveground C (AGC) and topsoil…
“Muslims are Finally waking up”
Across the world, Muslims in non-Muslim majority countries are seen as alien humans, relegated to the margins of citizenship, permitted tenuous forms of belonging as long as they follow the “Good Muslim” script assigned to them by the majority. Drawing on a nation-wide qualitative study with youth from diverse Muslim im…

Species co‐occurrence shapes spatial variability in plant diversity–biomass relationships in natural rangelands under different grazing intensities
Grazing can alter plant species interactions in natural rangelands, which in turn might influence the productivity of the ecosystem but we do not fully understand how spatial variability in plant diversity‐biomass relationships are modulated by grazing intensity. Here, we hypothesized that plant species co‐occurrence in rangelands is mainly driven by niche segregation due to grazing and heterogeneity in local resources, and that grazing, therefor…

The Impossibility of Muslim Citizenship
In this article I ask a seemingly simple question—How can a Muslim be a liberal citizen?
