  • A Novel Approach to Locating Community Clinics to Promote Health Care Accessibility and Reduce Health Disparities in Baltimore, Maryland

Open Access•Caitlin DeClercq, Mohammad Gharipour et al.•ARTICLE•INQUIRY The Journal of Health…•2023

Baltimore, Maryland's entrenched racial residential segregation renders the city's world-class medical facilities and services inaccessible to many Black residents living in its most divested neighborhoods. Arguing the need for post-pandemic health care facilities to address health inequities as a practice of care-giving, this article describes a project funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to define a novel, transdisciplinary method…

  • Addressing local health service problems through integrated governance

Open Access•Anna Wetterberg, Sarah Frazer et al.•ARTICLE•Development in Practice•2023•References: 30

Local governments, facility staff, and civil society actors are often best placed to identify and address local service delivery problems. We explore how an integrated governance approach – that empowers local actors and promotes cross-sectoral collaboration – affected health service problem-solving in Senegal. Using a quasi-experimental design, we draw on survey data to trace how local health governance bodies address problems. Findings suggest …

  • Expanding the Traditional History and Physical Examination to Address Chronic Diseases and Social Needs

Kate Kirley, Rupinder Hayer et al.•ARTICLE•Academic Medicine•2020

PURPOSE: This study gathers validity evidence of an expanded History and Physical examination (H&P 360) to address chronic diseases through incorporation of biopsychosocial elements that are lacking in traditional H&P assessments via a multisite randomized controlled trial among medical students. METHOD: Third- and fourth-year medical students (n = 159) at 4 schools participated in an Objective Structured Clinical Examination designed with 2 case…

  • Revolutionary Romance

    Eric Johnson, Eric M Johnson•ARTICLE•Russian History•2016

The Russian revolutionaries who made up the Chaikovskii circle in the early 1870s sought to implement their socialist ideals in their everyday lives. This proved nowhere more problematic than in the sphere of romantic relations. Romance was widely viewed as incompatible with true devotion to the revolutionary cause—as being, in effect, a crime—by the Chaikovskii circle radicals themselves, as well as by some later socialists. By examining the cas…

  • Demographics, Inequality and Entitlements in the Russian Famine of 1891

Eric Johnson, Eric M Johnson Eric M Johnson•ARTICLE•The Slavonic and East European…•2015•Cited by: 5•References: 3

Twentieth-century scholars have interpreted the Russian famine of 1891 as a Malthusian crisis. As the rural population expanded a ‘demographic revolution took place that overran land resources and outstripped food production. A crop failure then resulted in famine and the loss of an estimated 500,000 lives. However, a meta-analysis suggests that the crisis was not a failure of food availability, but a failure of food entitlements. Government reco…

This Forum provides a range of voices on the Language Gap, as our aim is to shed light on the need for more critical dialogue to accompany the proliferation of political initiatives, policymaking, educational programs, and media coverage. We highlight some relevant background on the Language Gap and describe some of the research used to support the concept. The diverse slate of Forum contributions that we have assembled approach the Language Gap …

  • Does Measuring Intent Change Behavior

Vicki G Morwitz, Eric Johnson et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Consumer Research•1993•Cited by: 25

Past research has established that, while self-reports of purchase intentions can predict behavior, various factors affect the strength of the intentions-behavior link. This article explores one such factor: the impact of merely measuring intent. Our specific question concerns the impact of measuring intent on subsequent purchase behavior. Prior research suggests a mere-measurement hypothesis: that merely measuring intent will increase subsequent…

  • Reducing diesel particle emissions

Eric Johnson, Eric S Johnson•ARTICLE•Impact Assessment and Project…•2002

One aim of the UK's Air Quality Strategy is to cut emissions of particles, and one policy option is to fit light-duty diesel vehicles with particle traps. However, there is a more immediate, lower cost and more effective option — switching to LPG-fuelled vehicles. Using this option, this study estimates that vehicles owners could save in the range of £170 to £400 in annual operating cost; UK particle emissions could be cut an additional 2-7% in t…
