Understanding the Developmental Profiles of Young Black Sexual Minority Males Ages 14 to 24: Insights from Latent Profile Analysis
These findings underscore the complexity of development among YBSMM, highlighting the need for tailored interventions that promote economic stability, affirm identity, and expand access to resources. The results inform policy and practice enhancements that account for the nuanced socioeconomic contexts shaping YBSMM's experiences, fostering resilience and reducing health disparities. Future research should prioritize the design and implementation…
Balancing school improvement strategies with workload pressures: A participatory action research case study
This participatory action research case study describes how one secondary school aimed to improve staff culture. Although pre-test data showed the school as performing consistently well in terms of their organisational health, the school chose to implement a line management intervention over 12 months to target three low-rating factors: appraisal and recognition, professional growth, and supportive leadership. Quantitative evaluation showed that …
Models of school breakfast program implementation in Western Australia and the implications for supporting disadvantaged students
A substantial body of literature points to the educational and social benefits of school breakfast programs. Most high-income countries provide free or subsidized school breakfasts to support disadvantaged children. Australia does not have a nationally-funded school meal program. Instead, charitable organizations offer school breakfast programs on a voluntary basis, often with funding support from state/territory governments. Decisions about part…
Gender equality and educational leadership in Chinese schools
In this article, we explore more than 100 Chinese school leaders’ views about gender, equality and the historical and social contexts of Chinese education that they have experienced. China’s success in international student assessment programmes is rising, and Chinese females are continuing a steady trend of outdoing their male counterparts at all levels of schooling. So importance grows for the world to better understand Chinese education and th…
Physical literacy and policy alignment in sport and education in Australia
Sport Australia released the Australian Physical Literacy Framework (APLF) in 2019 to advance a national agenda for physical literacy (PL) and specifically, clarify and promote the development of PL in Australian sport and education sectors. For teachers, this policy initiative followed a period of curriculum development guided by the Australian Curriculum for Health and Physical Education (AC: HPE). The AC: HPE makes no explicit reference to PL,…
Clay We Are Made Of: Haudenosaunee Land Tenure on the Grand River
If one seeks to understand Haudenosaunee (Six Nations) history, one must consider the history of Haudenosaunee land. For countless generations prior to European contact, land and territory informed Haudenosaunee thought and philosophy, and was a primary determinant of Haudenosaunee identity. In The Clay We Are Made Of, Susan M. Hill presents a revolutionary retelling of the history of the Grand River Haudenosaunee from their Creation Story, throu…

Religion and Fat = Protestant Christianity and Weight Loss? On the Intersections of Fat Studies and Religious Studies
This article introduces the special issue on religion and fat by providing an overview of the connections between fat studies and religious studies. We identify four areas of potential overlap: religion and the fat body; religion and embodiment more generally; religion, food, and eating; and religion, weight loss, and food restriction. We then introduce the articles in this volume, which focus largely, if not exclusively, on Protestant Christiani…

Recruitment to physics and mathematics teaching: A personality problem
A major difficulty in recruiting sufficient mathematics and physics teachers may be that the satisfactions provided by teaching are not those sought by specialists in the physical sciences and mathematics. To increase the supply of teachers in these areas it may be necessary to broaden the range of potential applicants. A sample of 177 (92 per cent response rate) recent sixth‐formers who had previously been interviewed in 1985 was re‐contacted to…
