  • AIS data underrepresents vessel traffic around coastal Scotland

Open Access•Emily Hague, Alice Walters et al.•ARTICLE•Marine Policy•2025

Automatic Identification System (AIS) data is often used as a proxy to quantify vessel densities and estimate their associated impacts (e.g. emissions, underwater noise, likelihood of collision with marine megafauna), yet it is increasingly acknowledged that AIS data does not fully capture all vessels that may be present within a given area. Therefore, impacts that are evaluated using only AIS-based vessel data (e.g. counts) are likely underestim…

  • Uptake (un)limited

    Open Access•Debbie Cole, Régine Pellicer•ARTICLE•Language in Society•2012•Cited by: 7•References: 36

We observe thatmediatization(Agha 2011b) creates and maintains the conditions by which some messages and uptake formulations remain unavailable to larger audiences while others are continuously recycled and increasingly accessible. We argue that the maintenance of the unequal divisions of semiotic labor in ways that mirror socioeconomic inequalities at an increasingly global scale can be facilitated by mediatization as currently practiced. An ana…

  • Enregistering Diversity

Data from print media, instructional practices relating to the reading of poetry, and actual poetry-reading performances are used to trace interdiscursive links between public discourse about national diversi…
