  • Suggested mechanism of CCR5Δ32, CCR2-64I and SDF 1-3'A allele frequency change in Polish and Lithuanian gene pools from the perspective of passing time

Łukasz J Śledziński, Alicja Zamerska et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•2024

century were studied. The biostatistical analysis showed that the fluctuations in the frequency of CCR5Δ32 in the analysed time interval could be mainly the effect of genetic drift. Nevertheless, for CCR2-64I and SDF 1-3'A, the results confirm the suggestion of negative selection as the mechanism involved. Since all the polymorphic sites encode the elements of innate immune response that are indirectly associated with the process of an HPV infect…

  • Analysis of maternal lineage structure of individuals from chamber graves placed in medieval cemetery in Kałdus, Central Poland

    Open Access•Tomasz Płoszaj, Krystyna Jędrychowska-Dańska et al.•ARTICLE•HOMO•2020

century) has been widely debated in the context of an active demographic inflow from other countries and its contribution to the creation of the new country. Finding chamber graves which are considered typical for the Scandinavian ethnic group in a few cemeteries in Poland has become the basis for the anthropological inference on the potential participation of North European people in forming the social elite of medieval Poland. However, the ques…

  • Ancient DNA analysis might suggest external origin of individuals from chamber graves placed in medieval cemetery in Pień, Central Poland

    Tomasz Płoszaj, Krystyna Jędrychowska-Dańska et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•2017

The participation of immigrants during early days in Poland of Piast's dynasty is a debated issue among archaeologists and anthropologists alike. Such hypotheses were formulated on the basis of, amongst others, the discovery of early medieval chamber graves characterized by construction features typical of the Scandinavian culture area. Archaeological and anthropological studies to date have not provided an unequivocal answer as to whether the in…

  • Analysis of medieval mtDNA from Napole cemetery provides new insights into the early history of Polish state

Open Access•Tomasz Płoszaj, Krystyna Jędrychowska-Dańska et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•2016

Contemporary historical anthropology and classical archaeology are concerned not only with such fundamental issues as the origins of ancient human populations and migration routes, but also with the formation and development of inter-population relations and the mixing of gene pools as a result of inter-breeding between individuals representing different cultural units. The contribution of immigrants to the analysed autochthonous population and t…

  • Anaemia (thalassaemia) in the Middle Euphrates Valley of Syria in the second-fourth centuries AD

  • A Probable Case of Thalassemia Intermedia from Tell Masaikh, Syria

    Open Access•J Tomczyk, Piotr Palczewski et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2016•Cited by: 3•References: 19

In this report, we describe the first potential case of hereditary anaemia from the Middle Euphrates valley (Syria). The skeletal changes identified in the studied specimen were consistent with marrow hyperplasia, and the distribution, especially the involvement of the facial bones, the sternum and ribs, was suggestive of thalassemia. The identified haplotype indicates M4b1 haplogroup suggesting that the analysed specimen was either a newcomer fr…

  • Mitochondrial DNA genetic diversity and LCT-13910 and deltaF508 CFTR alleles typing in the medieval sample from Poland

Open Access•Tomasz Płoszaj, Blandyna Jerszyńska et al.•ARTICLE•HOMO•2015

  • The Late Neolithic sepulchral and ritual place of site 14 in Kowal (Kuyavia, Central Poland)

Grzegorz Osipowicz, Andrzej Bokiniec et al.•ARTICLE•Praehistorische Zeitschrift•2014•Cited by: 1

  • Anthropological analysis of the osteological material from an ancient tomb (Early Bronze Age) from the middle Euphrates valley, Terqa (Syria)

    Open Access•J Tomczyk, K Jędrychowska‐dańska et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2011•Cited by: 4•References: 19

Terqa, situated on the right bank of the Middle Euphrates, is known to have been a site already in the third and second millennium BC. Excavations which take place in this region aim to provide answers for numerous significant issues connected with the origins of human civilisation. In 2008 season we found a tomb dated 2650-2450 BC, consisting of two chambers with stone domes. The smaller chamber contained many luxury grave goods. The other one w…
