  • Bagan Myinkaba Village Cultural Heritage

Open Access•Elizabeth Moore, Theint Theint Aung et al.•ARTICLE•SPAFA Journal•2024

The life of Bagan speaks through its villages, from the founding set of nineteen some two thousand years ago, until today. This formative role of villages, however, has been side-lined by the fame of Bagan as the centre of a great Buddhist empire. The present article focuses on one village, Myinkaba. The location, its history, tangible and intangible characteristics underpin an evolving community of trade, production and religious patronage. Othe…

A multi-component health systems intervention to improve antenatal and postpartum care in these regions for women with hyperglycaemia in pregnancy was implemented between 2016 and 2019. We explored health professional perspectives on the impact of the intervention on …

  • Provider Perspectives on Sleep as a Determinant of Health and Housing Outcomes among Veterans Experiencing Homelessness

Open Access•Elizabeth Moore, Elizabeth M Moore et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023

Sleep problems are common among United States (U.S.) veterans and are associated with poor health, mental health, and functioning. Yet, little is known about insufficient sleep and factors contributing to sleep disparities among veterans experiencing homelessness. We conducted semi-structured interviews to better understand the clinical, environmental, and structural factors contributing to insufficient sleep among veterans and to improve care fo…

Community integration is important to address among homeless-experienced individuals. Little is known about helping veteran families (families with a parent who is a veteran) integrate into the community after homelessness. We sought to understand the experiences of community integration among homeless-experienced veteran families. We used a two-stage, community-partnered approach. First, we analysed 16 interviews with homeless-experienced vetera…

Open Access•Megan R Winkler, Elizabeth Moore et al.•ARTICLE•Maternal and Child Nutrition•2017

Parents demonstrate an important influence on adolescent obesity and dietary behavior; yet, family-based obesity interventions continue to exhibit limited success among adolescents. To further inform family-based approaches for adolescent obesity treatment, we examined the perceptions of adolescent females with obesity and their mothers of the influences experienced within the parent-adolescent relationship that affect everyday dietary practices.…

  • Water Management in the Urban Cultural Heritage of Myanmar

    Open Access•Elizabeth Moore, U San Win et al.•ARTICLE•TRaNS Trans -Regional and…•2016•Cited by: 4•References: 7

This article assesses indigenous perceptions of water through a comparison of the water management strategies at three ancient sites located in different ecological zones of Myanmar. Two of our examples are in the high-rainfall regions of Lower Myanmar: Thagara in the Dawei River valley flanked by mountains on the east and west, and Kyaikkatha on delta lands at the egress of the Sittaung River. We contrast these adaptations with the micro-exploit…

Open Access•Elizabeth Moore, Elizabeth Howard Moore et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Urban History•2014•Cited by: 1

Buddhist spaces in Bangkok and Rangoon both had long common traditions prior to nineteenth- and early twentieth-century colonial incursions. Top–down central city planning with European designs transformed both cities. While Siamese kings personally initiated civic change that began to widen economic and social interaction of different classes, British models segregated European, Burmese, Indian, and Chinese populations to exacerbate social diffe…

  • The sacred geography of Dawei

Elizabeth Moore, Elizabeth Howard Moore•ARTICLE•Contemporary Buddhism•2013

The paper opens by recounting the beginnings of Buddhism in Dawei as preserved in local chronicles and sustained in stupas marking the episodes of the chronicle narrative. The chronicles start with a visit of the Buddha whose arrival triggers a series of events bringing together pre-existing tutelary figures, weiza, a hermit and offspring born of a golden fish, culminating in the establishment of the first Buddhist kingdom circa the eighth to ten…

The affini-ties to Lijiashan are greater than those to the larger and more renowned cemetery of Shizhaishan. The dates of the Samon Culture overlap with the earlier Dian cemeteries. Most of the Samon finds are not found outside Myanmar, such as small wire packets, floral ornaments and…

  • Archaeology of the Shan Plateau

    Elizabeth Moore•ARTICLE•Contemporary Buddhism•2009

The archaeology of the Shan Plateau highlights the role of local knowledge in the shifting religious and social frameworks of the first millennium CE. Artefacts from four river regions (Shweli, Myit Ngeh, Inle and Thanlwin) are compared to illustrate the \ncomplex networks that underpinned and prompted the transition from Bronze–Iron chiefdoms to Buddhist kingdoms. New data from discoveries of recent decades are used to widen discussion from site…

  • The New Agriculture

    Open Access•Elizabeth Moore•ARTICLE•Policy and Society•2007•Cited by: 2

Agriculture in Canada is a mature staples industry. However it also contains some elements of a post-staples sector notably in trends towards an increasingly high technological component of basic foodstuffs. This is evident in the increasing mechanisation of farm production, the increasing sophistication of food inspection processes and other developments of industrial farming, but reaches its apogee in the use of sophisticated gene-splicing to p…

The high rainfall of the Lower Myanmar coast is balanced by the aridity of the country's inland plains. The article profiles three sites in a laterite-rich area located in the northern part of the Lower Myanmar peninsula. The walls and moats of these sites underline their role in water management, one where control of water was the decisive catalyst. The sites of Kyaikkatha, Kelasa, and Winka illustrate how slight changes in topography signal cri…

The permissive American regulatory regime has been resilient; the rigorous EU regime, much less so. The account of policy development and policy resilience directs attention to the foundational ideas and material legacies of regulatory policies at an early critical jun…

This article addresses two propositions on white-collar crime derived from a general theory of crime recently proposed by Gottfredson and Hirschi. This theory predicts that white-collar offenders are (a) as criminally versatile and (b) as prone to deviance as common offenders. To assess the validity of these propositions, the authors investigate the criminal records of white-collar and common offenders and their respective levels of participation…
