  • Diversity and frequency of endoparasitism in ancient populations of the Iberian Peninsula

Open Access•Kévin Roche, Matthieu Le Bailly et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological and Anthropological…•2026•References: 53

  • Paleoparasitological evidence of helminth infections in individuals from two Late Iron Age necropolises in Northern Italy (3rd-1st c. BCE)

    Open Access•Ramón López‐gijón, Z Laffranchi et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2025

OBJECTIVE: Evaluate the presence of digestive macroparasites (helminths) in human remains from the Late Iron Age (3rd-1st c. BCE) in northern Italy (Verona province). MATERIALS: Pelvic soil samples and control samples from the skull or foot areas of 55 individuals from the necropolises of Seminario Vescovile (n = 45) and Povegliano Veronese (n = 10). METHODS: All samples were examined using brightfield optical microscopy. In addition, soil sample…

  • Evidence of parasites in the ancient city of Delos (Greece) during the hellenistic period

    Open Access•Kévin Roche, Nicolas Capelli et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological and Anthropological…•2025•Cited by: 2•References: 28

  • Optimizing extraction and targeted capture of ancient environmental DNA for reconstructing past environments using the PalaeoChip Arctic-1.0 bait-set

    Open Access•Tyler J Murchie, Melanie Kuch et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2021

Sedimentary ancient DNA (sedaDNA) has been established as a viable biomolecular proxy for tracking taxon presence through time in a local environment, even in the total absence of surviving tissues. SedaDNA is thought to survive through mineral binding, facilitating long-term biomolecular preservation, but also challenging DNA isolation. Two common limitations in sedaDNA extraction are the carryover of other substances that inhibit enzymatic reac…

  • Catchment processes can amplify the effect of increasing rainfall variability

Open Access•Marc F Müller, Kévin Roche et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2021

By filtering the incoming climate signal when producing streamflow, river basins can attenuate—or amplify—projected increases in rainfall variability. A common perception is that river systems dampen rainfall variability by averaging spatial and temporal variations in their watersheds. However, by analyzing 671 watersheds throughout the United States, we find that many catchments actually amplify the coefficient of variation of rainfall, and that…

  • Ancient parasites from a peat bog

    Open Access•Kévin Roche, Isabelle Jouffroy‐Bapicot et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2020•Cited by: 3•References: 5

This paper presents an original palaeoparasitological study performed on samples from a sedimentary core in a peat bog (Asi Gonia, White Mountains, Crete, Greece). The aim of the study is to test the preservation and concentration of parasitic remains in peat sediments, to discuss animal presence around the site throughout the record, and to compare the results with other biomarkers of environmental history. In this aim, 22 sediment samples distr…

  • The Australian Great Flood of 1954

Kévin Roche, Kevin M Roche et al.•ARTICLE•Weather, Climate, and Society•2013

As in many other parts of the globe, migration to the coast and rapid regional development in Australia is resulting in large concentrations of population and insured assets. One of the most rapidly growing regions is southeastern Queensland and northern New South Wales, an area prone to flooding. This study reexamines the Great Flood of 1954 and develops a deterministic methodology to estimate the likely cost if a similar event had occurred in 2…
