  • Aligning natural climate solutions with mitigation policies for low-cost carbon neutrality

Open Access•Binbin Huang, Lijing Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2025

To limit global warming to below 1.5 °C–2 °C, more than 140 countries have pledged carbon neutrality. However, many less-developed countries and regions face economic constraints and often suffer from severe ecosystem degradation, which jointly hinder their ability to meet these commitments. Here, we use the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau (QTP), a less-developed region that has experienced ecosystem degradation, as a case study. We use a novel multi-scena…

  • Identifying suitable areas for cropland and urban development in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

    Open Access•Lijing Wang, Lu Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Land Use Policy•2025•Cited by: 1•References: 19

  • Prehistoric subsistence strategy dynamics and their differences under a similar hyper-arid environment in the contiguous Turpan and Hami Basins of Xinjiang

    Open Access•Lijing Wang, Yongqiang Wang et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2024•Cited by: 3•References: 9

Agropastoralism has prevailed in Inner Asia since the Bronze Age. It is an optimal subsistence strategy of inhabitants for adaptation to arid marginal environment. However, previous studies paid little attention to different development trajectories of this mixed economy within similar habitat. The Turpan and Hami Basins, located in eastern Tianshan Mountains of Xinjiang, are two typical desert oases with extremely dry climate, providing us with …

  • Earliest known well‐preserved flour comestibles unearthed in the Wupu Cemetery in Hami, Xinjiang, China

Open Access•Lijing Wang, Yong Ge et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2024•References: 46

Exploring the utilisation of flour in ancient Xinjiang is crucial for understanding the use of different grain crops as staple comestibles. In this study, multiple analyses were applied to identify five flour food remnants discovered in the Wupu Cemetery (1100–400 BCE) in Hami, Xinjiang. Results show that two of the samples were comprised of broomcorn millet ( Panicum miliaceum ) mixed with wheat ( Triticum aestivum ) and barley ( Hordeum spp.), …

  • Rural-urban differences in prevalence of and risk factors for refractive errors among school children and adolescents aged 6–18 years in Dalian, China

Open Access•Yachen Wang, Lei Liu et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2022

Purpose To assess the prevalence of refractive errors (REs) in school children aged 6–18 years in urban and rural settings in Dalian, Northeast of China. Methods This is a school-based cross-sectional survey using multi-stage randomization technique. Six- to eighteen-year-old school children from elementary schools, junior and senior high schools from a rural area and an urban area in Dalian were included in December 2018. All subjects underwent …

  • Providing HIV testing in men who have sex with men through a gay social networking app in China

Open Access•Tianming Zhao, Zhaobing Cao et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2022

Objective: We explored the feasibility of app-based HIV testing services (AHTS) among men who have sex with men (MSM) according to the perspectives of testing service providers. Methods: Twenty-one current or previous AHTS providers participated in a semi-structured interview which explored the facilitators and barriers to AHTS. Ten participants originating from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and 11 from the non-governmental …

  • Environmental impact of apparel supply chain and textile products

Open Access•Shadia Moazzem, Enda Crossin et al.•ARTICLE•Environment Development and…•2022

  • Seeds of melon (Cucumis melo L., Cucurbitaceae) discovered in the principal tomb (M1) of Haihun Marquis (59 BC) in Nanchang, China

Open Access•Lijing Wang, Jun Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological and Anthropological…•2020

  • Inner Asian agro-pastoralism as optimal adaptation strategy of Wupu inhabitants (3000–2400 cal BP) in Xinjiang, China

    Open Access•Lijing Wang, Yongqiang Wang et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2020•Cited by: 5•References: 36

Exploring ancient socio-economic adaptation is a basic issue of human-environment interaction. Xinjiang in northwest China is a region of high geographic diversity. Past human adaptations to this arid marginal area is a current focus of research interest but still lacks in-depth study. This article presents data from the Wupu Cemetery, located in the extremely arid Hami Basin in the eastern Tianshan Mountains. Archaeobotanical analysis is used to…
