Japan's financial contribution to the UN system
The United Nations is a long‐standing, main pillar of Japan's foreign policy. Japan expresses its commitment to the UN system through its percentage assessed contributions to the UN's regular and peacekeeping budgets. It has been the second largest contributor, after the United States, since 1986. In 2000, its rate will top 20 per cent. Contributions to other UN agencies and programmes have been equally large.
