‘The beauty…is that it speaks for itself’
This essay takes up the incorporation of geospatial materials into international criminal law and its institutional locations, focusing on the Hague-based International Criminal Court (ICC). We consider how geospatial materials such as satellite imagery are conscripted as legal materials for international criminal trials, and how these relatively novel forms of evidence require interventions of technical knowledge through expert witness testimony…

The website…

In the decades following the end of the Cold War, the process of producing state constitutions has transformed into a veritable industry. This commentary considers contemporary practices of constitution-making as a site for critical reflection. It takes up the provision of “expert” advice in constitution-making processes in relation to three tropes of how these processes are conceived. As an attempt at diagnosing the constitution-making present, …
Donors' Justice
International legal scholarship to date has largely neglected the donor-driven dynamics of international criminal justice. This article advances what I term ‘donors’ justice’ as an analytic frame for interpreting the work of international criminal tribunals. Donors’ justice is defined as third-party financial support for tribunal activity. It imports market rationalities into the field of criminal accountability, which assume overlapping discursi…
