Sexuality research and sex research differ in a number of important ways. Sex research focuses on the mechanics of sex and is dominated by biomedical discourses and most often framed from an “objective” stance. This paper explores a research and education project seeking positive ways to engage young men in respectful and ethical negotiation within sexual relationships. The experiences of young men aged 16-25 years of age are explored who took part in the Sex & Ethics Violence Prevention Program which was developed in 2006 and continues to be run in several Australian states and in New Zealand. The idea that pleasure might form a part of sexuality education is no longer a 'new' idea in the field of sexuality studies. This article argues that many anti-violence prevention strategies have been shaped by unarticulated discourses of sexuality that focus primarily on women managing the risk and danger of unethical behaviour of men. This article reports on a study of a small group of social workers who are or have been coordinators of health-based sexual assault services in New South Wales, Australia. What does working in this area of practice mean for these women? How has being daily witnesses to sexual assault affected their lives professionally and personally? This article aims to give voice to and thereby gain some understanding of these workers' experiences

Social workers have played an active part in the development of sexual assault services in New South Wales. It will be argued they have effectively fulfilled the roles of individual counsellor, advocate, educator, social planner and political negotiator. Skills in these areas have benefitted individual clients and contributed to the development of social policy in the area of sexual assault
