Is part-time employment a temporary ‘stepping stone’ or a lasting ‘mommy track’? Legislation and mothers’ transition to full-time employment in Germany

No place for young women? The impact of internal migration on adult sex ratios in rural East Germany
Shortages of women in rural areas occur in many highly urbanized countries. Rural East Germany is an ideal case for studying this phenomenon because of its low adult sex ratio (ASR)-men greatly outnumber women-coupled with high outmigration among young adults. Towards a Comprehensive Understanding of Fertility
In this theoretical contribution, we propose a comprehensive and integrative heuristic model to explain fertility, the Model of Dyadic Pathways (MDP). We show how existing models such as the Theory of Planned Behaviour often do not withstand empirical challenges, especially not individual self-reports in qualitative studies. Furthermore, existing models vary in their premises and foci, resulting in a collection of models which do not necessarily …
Diverging Patterns in Women’s Reconciliation Behavior across Family Policies and Educational Groups
Most literature on mothers’ reconciliation of family and employment focuses on singular transitions. This article studies the totality of mothers’ reconciliation behavior across several births. Drawn from a larger sample in West Germany, it uses sequence analysis on the trajectories of 1,662 mothers of two children in the ten years following the first birth.
