  • The Reciprocal Relationships Among Perceived Parental Support, Career Exploration and Career Aspiration Developmental Trajectories

Open Access•Xu Xie, Weijian Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Adolescence•2026

INTRODUCTION: This three-wave longitudinal study examined the reciprocal relationships among perceived parental support, career exploration, and career aspiration trajectories in adolescents, with a focus on collectivist cultural context. The research aimed to clarify how these variables dynamically influence one another during high school and whether gender differences exist in their developmental patterns. METHODS: = 15.11 years) from Shandong …

How do conceptual and procedural fraction knowledge influence the development of each other over time? Is their pattern of development a reflection of instruction? In the present study we conducted a four-wave longitudinal investigation of the co- and bidirectional development of whole number arithmetic, and conceptual and procedural fraction knowledge during a critical phase of fraction learning. Chinese students (N = 1,055, Mage = 9.8, SD = 0.7…

  • Capturing the interconnected development of whole number arithmetic operations using a network approach

Chang Xu, Sabrina M Di Lonardo Burr et al.•ARTICLE•Developmental Psychology•2025

We used network analysis to examine the structure and development of arithmetic fluency in Chinese students from Grades 3 to 6-a critical period during which fluency across the four operations becomes increasingly integrated. In two preregistered studies, students completed timed fluency tasks in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. In Study 1, we compared network structures in Grade 3 ( N = 1,072; M age = 9.1 years) and Grade 6 (…

  • How students' math anxiety profiles change in primary school

Open Access•Xinfeng Zhuo, Yangyang Wang et al.•ARTICLE•British Journal of Educational…•2025•References: 91

BACKGROUND: Math anxiety (MA) is recognized as a heterogeneous and dynamic construct, significantly affecting students' academic performance. Despite its importance, longitudinal studies examining the profiles of MA from multiple dimensions and their transitions remain limited. AIMS: The study identified distinct MA profiles, controlling for general anxiety, test anxiety and math achievement. It also examined how teacher support, peer support and…

Open Access•Hongmin Feng, Yanli Xu et al.•ARTICLE•Child Development•2024

The longitudinal person-oriented study aimed to explore profiles, stability, gender differences, and compositional relations of math attitudes by tracking Chinese third graders (Ntotal = 1013, Mage(T1) = 8.92 ± 0.46, Ngirls = 404) in four waves with 1-year intervals. Five profiles and unstable transitional probabilities were identified among the four waves. The relations between enjoyment to confidence and value shifted from reciprocity to enjoym…

  • Transition of latent classes of children’s mathematics anxiety in primary school and the distinctive effects of parental educational involvement

Jiamin Si, Jiwei Si et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica Sinica•2022

Mathematics anxiety is a sense of tense and anxious that an individual feels when solving the problems related to mathematics. This phenomenon has a considerable prevalence among children and youth, even in adults. Currently, most studies regard mathematics anxiety as a single-dimensional structure. However, mathematics anxiety is a multi-dimensional structure. For example, individuals with high mathematics learning anxiety are often associated w…

  • Fraction mapping and fraction comparison skills among grade 4 Chinese students

Open Access•Sabrina M Di Lonardo Burr, Chang Xu et al.•ARTICLE•British Journal of Educational…•2022•References: 30

BACKGROUND: Mapping fraction symbols to magnitudes is easier for students to master than comparing fraction magnitudes. Fraction mapping assesses students' understanding of part-whole interpretations of fractions; fractions represent the parts of an object or set of objects. Fraction comparison assesses students' understanding of measurement interpretations of fractions; a fraction is a single numerical quantity, not a combination of two whole nu…

  • The Effect of Central Executive Load on Adult’s Strategy Using in Computational Estimation

Jiwei Si, Ji-Wei SI et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica Sinica•2013

  • SNARC Effect of Non-Symbolic Number Information on Different Processing Levels

Jiamin Si, Jiwei Si et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica Sinica•2013

  • Distractors Interfere with Numerical Estimation in Chinese College Students as a Function of Field-Dependent or Field-Independent Cognitive Style

Open Access•Jihong Xu, Jiwei Si et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2011

Field-dependent/independent groups' numerical estimation was assessed with respect to different distractors. Participants were 81 college students with field-dependent or field-independent cognitive styles. Cognitive style had a significant main effect on reaction without distractors. When the number of distractors was double the number of targets, the estimation accuracy of the field-dependent and field-independent groups differed. Under this do…
