  • Suicide and Its Nexus

Open Access•Nastiti Lestari, Seth Abrutyn et al.•ARTICLE•MASYARAKAT Jurnal Sosiologi•2024

In Indonesia, suicide research has largely overlooked structural factors at the meso and macro levels, whether as primary causes, contributing factors, or considerations for prevention strategies. The dominance of psychological and psychiatric approaches has marginalized sociological perspectives, limiting a more holistic understanding of suicide. Existing heuristic models primarily frame suicide as a consequence of mental health disorders or eco…

  • Protected and other conserved areas

    Open Access•Katherine C Mackinnon, K Mackinnon et al.•ARTICLE•The International Forestry Review•2020

Biodiversity loss and climate change are two of the greatest environmental challenges of our times and are inextricably interlinked. The most significant drivers of forest and biodiversity loss are habitat loss and fragmentation due to land use changes and overexploitation. These changes will be exacerbated by climate change with increasing land degradation and more conversion of forests to meet increasing demands for agriculture and forest resou…

  • The Impact of Virtual Environments on Restorativeness and Affect

Open Access•Nicola Schutte, Navjot Bhullar et al.•ARTICLE•Ecopsychology•2017

The present study examined the impact of virtual reality experience of an urban versus a natural environment on affect and restorativeness. Participants were randomly assigned to experience a natural environment through 360-degree interactive virtual reality or an urban environment through 360-degree interactive virtual reality. Virtual reality experience of a natural environment compared to virtual reality experience of an urban environment resu…

  • Inorganic carbon assimilation in the Isoetids, Isoetes lacustris L. and Lobelia dortmanna L.

Open Access•K Richardson, Chrisanthi Avgerou et al.•ARTICLE•Oecologia•1984

The inorganic carbon fixation patterns of Isoetes lacustris and Lobelia dortmanna from an oligotrophic Scottish loch have been examined by following titratable acidity changes in plant sap and light/dark 14 CO 2 incorporation by roots and shoots. The diurnal pattern of titratable acidity changes in I. lacustris suggests crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) while the lack of any change in titratable acidity in L. dortmanna suggests C 3 metabolism. O…
