  • OP05 From Trial to Population: Effect of a Weight Management Intervention on body Mass Index When Scaled Up

Joan Fagg, T Cole et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2012

Background The evidence base for effective interventions to manage childhood overweight and obesity is growing. However, results from research may not generalise to service delivery settings, and scaled-up interventions may not reduce health inequalities. We examine a scaled–up childhood weight management intervention, examining variations in body mass index by person, family, place and programme. Methods MEND 7–13 (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition, Do …

  • Measuring the stability of individual growth patterns

    Open Access•H Goldstein•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•1981

Two measures of stability based on longitudinal growth data are described. One, termed a growth constancy index, is based on the variation of each individual's (standardized) measurement about his or her average. The other, called a growth separation index, measures the extent to which individual growth curves cross each other. The uses of these indices are described and formulae for calculating them and their standard errors are given. They are …

  • Age Standardisation and Seasonal Effects in Mental Testing

Open Access•H Goldstein, Harris S Goldstein et al.•ARTICLE•British Journal of Educational…•1974•Cited by: 1

S ummary . It is pointed out that there are two distinct types of age standardisations for tests of school attainment. One is concerned with allowing for differences in age between children tested at the same time, and the other is concerned with allowing for average changes in test scores with time of year. Standardisation procedures do not normally take account of this distinction. It is also shown that there is no increase in attainment scores…
