The spiritual needs of older people with mental health problems in hospital can largely be met via providing good person-centred care
NHS policy stipulates that clinicians must provide spiritual care for older people with mental health problems in UK hospitals, however little qualitative research has focused upon this. Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) was used to explore how clinicians understand ‘spirituality’ and operationalise ‘spiritual care’. One of the staples of postmodern philosophy after Lyotard has been the idea that the "grand narratives" that unified past intellectual enterprises no longer hold--that the contemporary episteme is characterized by a plurality of language games and expert communities that yield few, if any, final standards of knowledge. Since the situation was diagnosed in The Postmodern Condition, however, efforts to unify research programs in the sciences have p…
Individual risk factors for early repetition of deliberate self‐harm
This study investigated individual factors associated with repetition of deliberate self‐harm (DSH) within three months of a first‐ever episode. Individuals from an 'at risk' population who repeated DSH ( N = 25) were compared with a socio‐demographically matched group of 'at risk' individuals who did not engage in a further episode of DSH ( N = 18). In comparison with the 'single DSH' individuals, those in the 'repeated DSH' group demonstrated s…
