Implementing Coordinated Specialty Care Programs for Psychosis Across the U.S
Over the past decade coordinated specialty care (CSC) programs for psychosis have proliferated across communities throughout the U.S. Although considered the gold standard of care for early psychosis, several states do not have CSC, and among states that do, there is limited availability in underserved communities, and implementation often varies based on geographical locations. We aimed to explore the views of state-level administrators and CSC …

New zooarchaeological evidence from Pictish sites in Scotland
Our knowledge of the use of livestock in early medieval Scotland is fragmentary and relies on a handful of well-studied faunal assemblages, with few from Pictland (north-east Scotland), an important and enigmatic group and latterly kingdom in Northern Britain that existed between the 3rd and 9th centuries AD. The assemblages that have been recovered and studied mainly occur at the limits of this territory, beyond the heartland of the Picts in the…
Exploring Provider Perspectives on Implementing Coordinated Specialty Care
Barriers and Facilitators That Influence Providers' Ability to Educate, Monitor, and Treat Substance Use in First-Episode Psychosis Programs Using the Theoretical Domains Framework
In this qualitative study, we explore providers' experiences with addressing substance use among individuals with first-episode psychosis (FEP) enrolled in coordinated specialty care (CSC) programs. Three focus groups were conducted with 24 providers from CSC programs for FEP in Washington. Questions were focused on barriers and facilitators to addressing substance use using the Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF) as a guide. Thematic analysis wa…
Cyborg Bonding
In this paper, I explore the social and cultural implications of the transition of nonmedical 3D ultrasound from a clinical to a social context. The photorealistic quality of 3D ultrasound images displaces sonographers and other medical professionals from their authoritative roles as the translators of fetal images and recasts the ultrasound machine as a technology of communication between women and their fetuses. 3D fetal images, because they ar…
Impacts of a National Mass Media Campaign on Walking in Scotland
The promotion of walking as a form of exercise holds considerable potential, both in terms of health benefits and its wide appeal to inactive groups. This paper presents the results of the evaluation of a national mass media walking campaign in Scotland which involved a 40 s television advertisement and a telephone helpline. The target population consisted of people aged 30–55 who are not regular exercisers. The campaign impact was assessed in te…
Problems of Gender in University Mathematics
This article presents the findings of a series of surveys on attitude towards mathematics carried out at the University of Edinburgh, as well as the analysis of national data on women's participation and performance in university mathematics. The main goal of the study was to ascertain whether there were gender differences in mathematics students' attitudes and achievement, and to obtain some idea of the scale of such differences. While some resu…

An investigation of relationship between shape constancy and introversion‐extroversion was carried out, using as subjects twenty‐four first‐year Psychology students of Aberdeen University; twelve introverts and twelve extroverts, selected on basis of Minnesota TSE scale. Results showed ( a ) that introverts showed lower constancy effect than extroverts and ( b ) that there was a tendency for men to show greater constancy effect than women. There …
