  • Mozambique Stone Age Landscape

Open Access•Nuno Bicho, Célia Gonçalves et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Paleolithic Archaeology•2026

Since the publication of our 2016 review mapping the Stone Age of Mozambique (Gonçalves et al., 2016), Stone Age archaeological research in the country has intensified significantly. This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of 654 Stone Age sites, including 272 newly documented sites. The recent discoveries in a total of more than 400 sites, discovered primarily through systematic survey campaigns between 2010 and 2025, represent an important…

  • Can Recall Data Be Trusted? Evaluating Reliability of Interview Data on Traditional Multilingualism in Highland Daghestan

Open Access•Michael Daniels, Michael Daniel et al.•ARTICLE•CAM•2022•References: 19

In this article, we address the issue of reliability of quantitative data on multilingualism of the past obtained as recall data. More specifically, we investigate whether the interviewees' assessments of the language repertoires of their late relatives (indirect data) provide results that are quantitatively similar to those obtained from the people of the same age range themselves (direct data). The empirical data we use come from an ongoing fie…

  • Arc

Open Access•Jean-Denis Courcol, Cédric F Invernizzi et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2021

In 2020 the world was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic putting entire governments and civil societies in crisis mode. Around the globe unprecedented shortages of equipment and qualified personnel were reported in hospitals and diagnostic laboratories. When a crisis is global, supply chains are strained worldwide and external help may not be readily available. In Switzerland, as part of the efforts of the Swiss National COVID-19 Science Task Force, we…

  • A grounded theory investigation into negative paranormal or spiritual experience, based on the ‘diabolical mysticism’ of William James

    Janice Hartley, Michael Daniels•ARTICLE•Transpersonal Psychology Review•2008•Cited by: 1•References: 4

This study explores negative paranormal and spiritual experiences in the light of William James’s concept of ‘diabolical mysticism ‘. The aim was to investigate the characteristics of these experiences, how they are interpreted by those who experience them, the rea.ciions of others, and their overall influence on people’s lives. The methodology used semi-structured interviews to develop a grounded theory. Seven participants were interviewed, five…

  • A note on implementation of a random-walk design to study adolescent social networks

  • Observer agreement calculations

Open Access•Alex Harrop, Christine Foulkes et al.•ARTICLE•British Journal of Psychology•1989

By the use of momentary time‐sampling data obtained from a pair of observers, various indices of observer agreement were computed. An analysis of the results showed that conflicting claims could be made for the adequacy of the observers’ agreement levels depending upon which indices were used. By contrast, visual inspection of the primary data in contingency tables was seen to reveal full information without introducing any in‐built assumptions. …

  • The Myth of Self-Actualization

    Open Access•Michael Daniels•ARTICLE•Journal of Humanistic Psychology•1988•Cited by: 17•References: 22

I argue that the primary function of a theory of self-actualization is to establish a myth of human development that provides conceptual support for people seeking fulfillment and offers clear normative guidance. An examination of Maslow's theory reveals inadequacies as a mythical interpretation of personal development. There are ambiguities and contradictions in the theory, and several conceptual elements may inhibit or corrupt the process of se…

  • Momentary time sampling with time series data

Open Access•Alex Harrop, Michael Daniels•ARTICLE•British Journal of Psychology•1985

The accuracy of momentary time sampling was investigated as a function of (a) the emitted duration of instances of behaviour, and (b) the rate (probability) of emission of behaviour. A computer simulation randomly generated pseudo‐behaviours of durations 1, 10 and 20 notional seconds (constant within each condition) at probabilities of onset of 1/6 and 1/60. Twenty runs, each of one notional hour, were generated for each combination of duration a…
