Are there that few memory publications worth remembering
Eight undergraduate memory texts published between 1976 and 1980 referred to a total of 3510 separate publications. Of these latter, ten (0.3%) were cited in all eight texts and 2826 (81%) were cited just once. Data about the age-distribution of cited references and the commonalities of cited references among the texts are also presented
On the relation between productivity and impact
The number of publications per person per year and the number of citations to published work per person per year were counted for a sample of 299 Australasian academic psychologists for the period 1970–1975. Ten per cent of the sample accounted for 36% of the publications and 10% of the sample for 60% of the citations. At the level of universities there was a relationship (r = .70) between productivity (publications) and impact (citations). Acros…
The statue syndrome
Clinical and literary citations to a syndrome in which a sexual relationship is established with a human representation (usually a statue) are examined. Notwithstanding the observations of Havelock Ellis, Krafft‐Ebing, and more modern commentators, the present survey found only a single documented instance where this condition existed as part of a complex manifestation of symptoms but a number of instances where it occurred as a pornographic fant…

Effect of Response Instructions on the Perceived Duration of Briefly Exposed Words
Subjects were required to estimate the perceived duration of words varying in frequency and length when (unbeknown to Ss) the stimuli were shown at a fixed exposure of one second. Subjects in one group estimated duration and spelled out the stimuli; in a second group estimated duration only; in a third group estimated duration and spelled out the stimuli having previously seen the stimuli. No effects due to frequency and length were observed, but…
Hemispheric Asymmetries in Tachistoscopic Information-processing
A considerable number of experiments, reported since 1965, has been concerned with cerebral hemisphere differences and the processing of tachistoscopic visual information. The present paper critically examines the findings from laboratory experiments with normal Ss and from clinical experiments with brain-damaged patients. Three general conclusions are reached from this analysis: (1) Much of the available evidence on tachistoscopic laterality dif…
