  • The Italian Version of the Junior Eysenck Personality Questionnaire: A Confirmatory Factor Analysis

Open Access•Giulio Vidotto, Raffaele Cioffi et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2008

An experimental version of the Italian Junior Eysenck Personality Questionnaire with a 5-point scale was administered to a group of 1,000 high school students, 200 within each age group from 11 to 15 years. Following a previous exploratory factor analysis, which yielded a fourth factor in addition to the original three, the aim of the present research was to study the factor structure of the Italian version using confirmatory factor analysis. Thr…

  • Ideology and Humor Preferences

    Open Access•Glenn D Wilson•ARTICLE•International Political Science…•1990•Cited by: 12•References: 18

This paper reviews psychological research concerned with the relationship between broad factors of social and political attitudes and preferences for different types of humor. Conservatives, compared with liberals, were found to dislike jokes that are overtly sexual and aggressive, although there are signs of a recent reaction against "sexist" jokes among liberal youth. Within the sphere of nonsense humor, conservatives were intolerant of jokes t…

  • Human reactions to reward and punishment: A questionnaire examination of Gray's personality theory

    Open Access•Glenn D Wilson, Paul T Barrett et al.•ARTICLE•British Journal of Psychology•1989•Cited by: 2

The development of the Gray-Wilson Personality Questionnaire is described; this is an instrument designed to measure human equivalents of six animal behaviour paradigms - Approach, Active Avoidance, Passive Avoidance, Extinction, Fight and Flight. Although these six scales showed satisfactory internal consistency they failed to link up into the three major systems suggested by Gray's personality theory. The strongest associations were between Fig…

  • Parental characteristics and partner choice: Some evidence for Oedipal imprinting

    Open Access•Glenn D Wilson, Paul T Barrett et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Biosocial Science•1987

Do girls fall in love with an image of their father? This study tested the hypothesis that, in choosing a partner, people tend to replicate the physical and mental attributes of their opposite-sex parent more than of the same-sex parent. A sample of 314 women, mostly in their late teens and describing themselves as ‘in love’, supplied details of their boyfriends and parents. A tendency for the boyfriend's eye colour to match that of the father mo…

  • Sexual Behaviour, Personality and Hormonal Characteristics of Heterosexual, Homosexual and Bisexual Men

    Glenn D Wilson, K W M Fulford•CHAPTER•Love and attraction•1979

  • Love and attraction: An international conference

    Mark Cook, Glenn D Wilson•BOOK•Love and attraction•1979

  • Genetic and Family Origins of Humor Preferences: A Twin Study

    Open Access•Glenn D Wilson, John Rust et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1977

49 pairs of MZ twins and 52 pairs of DZ twins rated a series of 48 cartoons classified as nonsense, satire, aggression, and sex. Analysis of variance and comparison of intra-class correlations yielded some indication of a genetic effect on reactions to aggressive humor, but the family environment appeared to be more important as a determinant of individual differences in appreciation of nonsense, satire, and sexual humor

  • The Psychology of Conservatism

    James Mcevoy, Glenn D Wilson•REVIEW•Contemporary Sociology A Journal…•1975

  • Psychological Correlates of Sexual Attractiveness: An Empirical Demonstration of Denial and Fantasy Gratification Phenomena

    Open Access•Glenn D Wilson, Anthony H Brazendale•ARTICLE•Social Behavior and Personality…•1974

Sexual attractiveness ratings of 97 female student teachers were investigated as predictors of personality, social attitude, and humor preference variables. Eysenck's major “temperamental” factors were not correlated with attractiveness, but social attitude variables showed a pattern of correlations that could be interpreted as reflecting rationalization and denial; unattractive girls tended to be more idealistic, religious, puritanical and oppos…

  • Personality, Attitudes and Humor Preferences of Prisoners and Controls

    Open Access•Glenn D Wilson, Alastair MacLean•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1974

A sample of 100 recidivists were compared with 100 trainee bus drivers on measures of personality, social attitudes and humor preferences. Results support Eysenck's findings that criminals tend to be more psychotic, extra-verted, and neurotic than controls, and that a “criminal propensity” scale derived from these three personality characteristics can give reasonable separation of prisoners from non-prisoners. Results from the attitude and humor …

  • Social Attitude Correlates of Eysenck's Personality Dimensions

    Open Access•Glenn D Wilson, Anthony H Brazendale•ARTICLE•Social Behavior and Personality…•1973

In a sample of 97 female student teachers, correlations were obtained between 4 personality factors measured by a new form of the Eysenck Personality Inventory and 6 social attitude variables measured by the Conservatism Scale. Extraversion was associated with liberalism, realism, hedonism, and non-religiousness. Neuroticism was related to ethnocentrism and the intolerance of minority groups, while psychoticism was associated with general conserv…

  • Projective Aggression and Social Attitudes

    Glenn D Wilson•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1973

Stmzmary.-This study investigates the extent to which styles of aggression and modes of response to frustration are predictive of individual differences in social attitude and belief patterns. The Rosenzweig Picrure-Frustracion Study was administered along with the Conservatism Scale to a sample of 47 female and 44 male students. Extrapunitiveness was associated with realistic and toughminded attitudes (particularly racialism and sexual freedom )…

  • Conservatism and art preferences

Glenn D Wilson, James I Ausman et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•1973•Cited by: 18

Starting with the proposition that a generalized fear of uncertainty is the psychological variable which accounts for the organization of social attitudes along a general factor of liberalism-conservatism, it was hypothesized that conservatives would express an aversion to highly complex and abstract art works. Twenty paintings were chosen by an art expert, five to represent each of four categories differing in degree of uncertainty: simple repre…

  • A New Measure of Conservatism

    Open Access•Glenn D Wilson, John R Patterson•ARTICLE•British Journal of Social and…•1968

A variable of personality which has been shown to have considerable predictive value in both social and clinical psychology is that which is variously labelled authoritarianism, dogmatism, fascism, and anti‐scientific attitude. The term ‘conservatism’ is preferred because it is less value‐toned than other alternatives. Previous tests of this dimension are criticized on a number of grounds and the development of a new test which circumvents these …
