    During the twelfth century, Majorca and its sister islands, then under Muslim rule, became an object of international interest owing to their emerging role in Mediterranean trade. Catalans, Genoese, Pisans and Sicilians each vied for control and influence over the islands. This article investigates the attacks, treaties, commercial ventures and diplomatic manoeuvrings that took place from 1159 to 1181 - a period of transition in Majorcan history.…
