  • Between Life and Death

Open Access•Bronwen Kennedy, Karina Gerdau-Radonic et al.•ARTICLE•Cahiers du Centre de recherches…•2024

Building on previous research, this study reports new stable dietary isotope results in conjunction with existing samples from the individuals buried at Mulhouse-Est. This was an early Neolithic cemetery located in Alsace and consisted of 24 articulated burials in addition to disarticulated remains, belonging to the Linearbandkeramik (LBK) culture. The main research question explored whether the diet thus reconstructed varies with burial practice…

  • Evaluating three methods to estimate the number of individuals from a commingled context

    Open Access•Nicole Lambacher, Karina Gerdau-Radonic et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2016•Cited by: 12•References: 12

An estimate of how many individuals are represented in a commingled assemblage is important to interpret the wider context (archaeologically or forensically), for further analyses, and for palaeodemographic studies. The aim of this study was to establish whether the Minimum Number of Individuals (MNI) and Minimum Number of Elements (MNE) estimates produced by three different methods (traditional MNI (White, 1953); zonation method (Knüsel and Outr…

Archaeological excavation of human remains can provide information on decomposition. From these data it is possible to establish the original lay out of the remains, to distinguish between taphonomic processes and intentional human intervention, and to reveal the presence of decomposed organic materials. From observations made in an archaeological context, the author describes the decomposition of a funerary bundle in a sitting/squatting position…

  • Why dig looted tombs? Two examples and some answers from Keushu (Ancash highlands, Peru)

Quelles informa…

  • The collective burials of Tablada de Lurín, Lurín valley, Peru (AD 1-300)1
